I want to start by saying my inspiration for this post and idea come from my parents who are both artists in their own respect. My father has been designing and creating for his entire 61 years on this planet. He has worked for a diverse number of companies throughout his life and created some cool shit. My mother really enjoys working with found object art (random shit around the house, etc.) I wish I could go into more detail but I dont want to get too specific. Anyway. I'm thinking of creating a website as an open forum to artists everywhere. More specifically starving artists...the name would be starvingartists.com or something of that like.

At any rate, what I'm trying to do essentially, is create an open venue for artists of all medias to present their artwork online. The home page would be a link for artists to submit their works, along with a link for gallery owners everywhere to view and contact said artists, people could create user names etc. similar to youtube, facebook, myspace etc. These other sites could be incorporated as sponsors or links as well.

This is a random thought I had today talking to my father about living as a starving artist for much of his life. And how he's tried to escape that even to this day as what many would consider a successful and well lived life.

Any thoughts, flames, comments, criticizims appreciated. I think personally it could be a fun project.

I can totally see your vision here, but I agree with the above poster, the site needs to clarify exactly what a starving artist is. I see where youre going with it though, sounds pretty exciting, i'd be willing to lend a hand (little bit of html, grpahics and some web design), im a photographer by trade though.

Someone beat me to it.
Deviantart also offers a way for people to buy prints of the pictures from the artist, with a portion of that profit going directly to the artist.
