Any musicians?

Just wondering if anyone plays guitar, drums, bass, etc...

I myself play in a Death Metal/Jazz/Technical band.

You're probably thinking none of it could come together, but Its actually some pretty trippy stuff. If you're interested, check out the band Cynic. Not too heavy, and very trippy. The musicians talents are vast, and the writing and creativity is amazing. They were from Florida in the early-mid 90's. Way worth checking out, IMO.

Cynic
I'd recommend listening to the second song, especially if you're a stranger to somewhat heavy music. Don't be discouraged by the labels, its nothing like you've ever heard.

And uh... I recommend a good bowl or joint of chronic, sets the mood.

i play guitar, not that well, but well enough to entertain myself. I used to play cello when I was younger, I was first chair in three different symphonies, but after I quit I lost nearly all of my musical ability. I should have picked up guitar right after I stopped.

^^ sounds like me, except i used to play the violin for about 5 years or so. Somehow i was 1st seat at my elementary school and won a 300 dollar savings bond, even though I sucked pretty bad (atleast that's what I thought) I play the guitar now too, also not that well but one day I hope that I will be good. Although at the rate I practice now that day will be a long time from now. I also wish I picked up the guitar after I quit violin, would have been cake then. But the main reason I quit was because i always bitched about practicing everyday, ha.

Yea, I've been playing drums for around 4-5 years now. I'm really getting into technical stuff now. My band plays stuff like Cynic, Between the Buried and Me, Martyr, Death, Athiest, etc.

I try to keep a very jazzy style going, no matter how heavy the material is. I'm a big fan of variety, and mixing different forms of music. The philosophy is "It should be good enough that people that don't like metal could listen to it all day".

But yea, right now I've been listening to Death (basically founded jazzy metal in the 80's/90's), Betwen the Buried and Me, Necrophagist, Behemoth, Martyr, Cynic, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment.

Once my band records some new stuff, I'll put up a link to a song or something.

Smashing Pumpkins and Alice in Chains are great.

I just got a CD of a band called Between the Buried and Me. Basically its a progressive band covering all of their favorite songs from different genres.

"Smashing Pumpkins - Geek USA" is on it.
Its pretty amazing what they did with it.

They also cover Sound Garden and Counting Crows.

I played guitar and given up on it everytime. But I think I'm gonna try one more time. I want to get an acoustic soon, and I'm gonna try to stay consistent.
