Old Games Graphics

Hi, I don't know why I haven't dropped in before. I was a games artist on the Amiga, ST, PC, etc for 15 years, I did about 30 games, though a lot were conversions from other formats. This is "The Oracle at Ba'al D'Chan", an illustration for in-game use.

Here's a couple of links, the second one is for a webshrine to a game I designed and drew called the "Lost Patrol".

Apart from the above picture, the pictures on both sites are drawn in 32 colours or less because of the constraints back then. I used DPaint2 mostly, as it was (and probably still is) the easiest package to use if you're drawing things at a 1 pixel at a time level, which these had to be - it was pretty much the only way to do things then.

They'll seem very old hat nowadays, but, they were fun to do. Some are miniature pictures about 64pixelsx64 that were used to create 3d buildings, others are link scenes, usually drawn at 200x320. On average a full size screen took about 3 days to do. I used a variety of source material, photographs, posed models, etc.

I tried to include more pictures, but it will only allow an 'attach' file, not a pasted in one for some reason...I'm doing something wrong but can't quite figure out what...

Yay for old schoolage. haha love the art, can't believe it was all done in 32 colors. If you want to just post an img, just have the link, the "" and it should be all good.

nice. i remember modding wolfenstein3d way back in 93/94/95? i cant remember. palette and resolution restrictions suck ass. I wish i still had time to do modding. The last (successful) game i worked on was infiltration for unreal tournament.

...MMM..MMM...those lovely processors Yes, I know what you mean. Therewere times when you'd slavedfor days trying to get everything down to a 16 colour Atari version, then the publisher would ask you to do it in 4 colours for the PC...

You were involved in Wolfenstein though? That's a pretty key title in games dev'. Interesting project?

the editing i did to wolf3d was very rudimentary. I was only 10 or 11 so i didn't do much other than change textures. Everything were sprites back then so it was easy to edit the game. i didn't really start doing real development work until Unreal where I'd model weapons and items, texture and make maps.
