I make magical items for as part of my living, some for stage work, others for pagan/wiccan ceremonys. No two are the same, most are made with a particular purpose (charm, protection, etc) in mind.
I'm the proud owner/maker of two fine pagan short staffs made from a 400 year old british oak that was felled by a lightning strike ten years ago. Each was blessed in a ceremony on the summer solstice three years ago. The wood on both is burnished, not varnished or polished in the normal sense, these are rubbed first for hours with an ash twig until the grain compresses and becomes shiny and solid, then more rubbing with pieces of cast off fleece to put a fine oil into them, as in the last picture. One has a large quartz crystal inserted into an 'eye' in the wood. As I pondered how to fit the oddly shaped crystal in the oddly shaped hole I turned it into various orientations but none worked. Then one day I gave it another shot and the crystal literally clicked into place as though it had always belonged there and wouldn't come out. Some pieces are like that, they make themselves.
Anyway, I hope the pictures come out okay.
