MMA FIGHTER JUSTIN EILERS MURDERED
Friday, December 26, 2008 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com

Mixed martial arts fighter Justin Eilers was shot and killed late Christmas night in Nampa, Idaho. Eilers' manager and friend, Monte Cox, confirmed his death to MMAWeekly.com Friday morning.

According to various reports, Canyon County Sheriff's Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 4600 block of Happy Valley Road in Nampa at 10:44 p.m. on Thursday.

When officers arrived on the scene they found that an adult male, later confirmed as Eilers, had been shot and killed. James Robert Malec, 48, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

Details surrounding the incident have not yet been revealed by police, but sources close to Eilers indicate that Malec is the boyfriend of Eilers' mother. He and Eilers reportedly got into some sort of argument and Malec allegedly produced a gun and shot Eilers.

Emergency workers attempted to revive Eilers, but were unsuccessful.

The incident is still under investigation by the Canyon County Sheriff's Office.

Eilers – 19-7-1 as a professional MMA fighter – fought for the Ultimate Fighting Championship in late 2004 where he won his Octagon debut before exiting the promotion following a three-fight skid, one of the losses was to then UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. He would later fight for World Extreme Cagefighting a couple of times before losing an EliteXC heavyweight title bid to Antonio Silva earlier this year in July.

Justin Eilers was 30 years old at the time of his death.

Re: the official UFC/MMA thread...

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson shrugged off the demons of years past to deliver an emphatic return against nemesis Wanderlei Silva, knocking the former Pride middleweight champ stone cold out in the first round.

Silva’s form, an all-or-nothing style of fast power punching, only served to hasten his defeat. Though he punished Jackson’s legs with kicks, his punches were dangerously wide inside the pocket.

Jackson found early success with a counter right hook, crossing the centerline with the shot a split second after Silva’s last punch.

Jackson fought far more upright than in recent memory, using head movement and a strong guard to avoid the bombs. His jab was active, popping Silva before he could be countered. Though he ate a big knee during a takedown attempt, he stayed patient and continued to trade.

Silva came forward with another flurry. Jackson slipped again, and this time, came across with a left hook. The punch caught Silva flush on the jaw, knocking him lifeless to the canvas.

It was the Brazilian’s third devastating knockout in two years.

Jackson said the troubles of the past were over, and he would get his mind right before begging the UFC for a title shot.

“Last time I fought I wasn’t right,” he said afterwards. “I came to the Wolfslair, got my wolf on. Now, Rampage is back, baby!”

Unhappy damn, i'm 0-2 in my picks on the big fights tonight...

-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
R1 - Mir with a high kick to open the fight that's blocked. Mir with an inside leg kick followed by a jab. Mir flurries and gets Nogueira to the ground. Mir lets him up. Mir lands and upper cut. Mir is winning the stand up working combos. Nogueira is stalking Mir, but Mir answers with another combination. They clinch where Mir lands a knee to the body. Mir drops Nogueira with a punch and tries to finish. Nogueira weathers the storm and Mir lets him back to his feet. The pace slows a bit as they pick their shots. Nogueira flurries but Mir blocks and smiles. Mir drops Nogueira with a left hand as the round ends.
MMAWeekly scores round one 10-8 for Frank Mir.

R2 - Body kick from Mir followed by a combination that only hit air. Nogueira lands a leg kick and tries to establish his jab as Mir continues to land big shots. Mir drops Nogueira with a back-to-back left hands and goes in for the finish landing bombs before the referee stops the fight.

Frank Mir def. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by TKO at 1:54, R2

Post Re: the official UFC/MMA thread...

In a night that saw 2 new champions crowned in the UFC, the promotion handed down the usual fight bonuses with $60,000 as the reward.

The "Fight of the Night" went to new 205lb champion Rashad Evans and now former title holder, Forrest Griffin for their war on Saturday night. After an early advantage for Griffin in the first two rounds, it was Evans who earned the win with a TKO stoppage on the ground in the third.

The "Knockout of the Night" went to former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson who exacted a measure of revenge against old foe Wanderlei Silva when he landed a thunderous shot that put the Brazilian down and out on the canvas.

No fights on the 10 bout card ended in submission, and thus the UFC handed out no "Submission of the Night" bonus.

14,103 fans crowded into the MGM Grand Garden Arena to see the last UFC show of the year capped off with the two title fights crowing new champions in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.

I didn't have a chance to catch the ppv, was out on the town last night... Kinda shocked that Mir beat Nog... But I guess that means we get to see Mir vs Lesnar 2.

Ufc 92 medical suspensions handed down

The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday released medical suspensions arising from Saturday’s UFC 92 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Most injured fighters received two months for their suspensions, with many receiving the stipulation they must see a specialist before being cleared to fight again.

Forrest Griffin is suspended until Feb. 12 for a left hand injury sustained in his fight with Rashad Evans. Griffin must have the hand x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he will not be allowed to fight until June 27, 2009.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria is suspended until Feb. 27 following his TKO loss to Frank Mir.

Mike Massenzio is suspended until Jan. 28 following his TKO loss to C.B. Dollaway

Wanderlei Silva is suspended until Feb. 27 following his knockout loss to Quinton Jackson.

Mostapha Al Turk sustained a broken nose in his ground and pound loss to Cheick Kongo, and must have it cleared by an ear, nose, and throat specialist before being cleared to fight. In addition, he must avoid contact until Feb. 12 for the lacerations over his left eye and on the top of his head. His minimum suspension from competition runs until Feb. 27, 2009, and unless he sees the specialist, will be out until June 27.

Mike Wessel is suspended until Feb. 12 for his TKO loss to C.B. Dollaway.

Matt Hamill is suspended until Feb. 12 and is forbidden from contact until Jan. 28 for a cut under his left eye that he sustained in his victory over Reese Andy.

Andy is required to have a CT Scan of his face to rule out an orbital fracture. His minimum suspension runs until Feb. 27, and is forbidden from contact until Feb. 12.

Brad Blackburn is required to gain clearance from a neurologist for tingling and numbness in his left arm following his decision win over Ryo Chonan. He also needs to be cleared by an ear, nose, and throat doctor for a nasal fracture. His minimum suspension runs until Feb. 12, with no contact until Jan. 28.

Dan Evensen must be cleared by an orthopedist for a left knee injury sustained in his fight with Pat Barry. His minimum suspension runs until Jan. 28, with no contact until Jan. 19.

For his part, Barry is barred from contact until Jan. 19 for an undisclosed injury to his right elbow.
