We've go the talent to beat Florida (especially on defense,) it's just up to the offense to click and put it together on the field. The motivation should be there... we can't lose to Florida five years in a row.

Do you live near Tallahassee?
I think it is arguable to say we have the best Dline in college football, now that Paul Griffen(used to go to my high school) is back, the anchor of that line is in place. Paul is the strongest player on the FSU squad, and really opens up things for the line backers and ends. Everret Brown is arguebly the best Defensive End in college football right now, pressuring tebow will be fine now that there oline is banged up.

I think as long as we worry about the little things on offense and just ask Ponder to not try any heroics and just manage the offense, one of our wide reciever will make a play that will open things up. Whenever we loss a game rescently it has been to QB woes and Offensive Line. The offensive lines at FSU to me have become more and more non athletic, that seems to be what they are recruiting. It is sad, great OL's like Walter Jones once wore the Garnett and Gold.

I live in Pensacola, but a diehard FSU fan, been to both National Championships and been going to the games since I wasn't able to walk.

Yeah, our defense is as good as ever. I think that by the time the Florida game rolls around Ponder will be as comfortable in the game as Weatherford... which will make him very dangerous.

The good and bad thing about the O-line is they are young. We've got two sophmores and three freshmen starting on the O-line. This means they are inexperienced, but they will be together for the next 2-3 years. And seeing as how they have been getting good pass and run blocking so far, the coming years should be great. And this is really the first year that Rick Trickett recruits have been playing. He likes them small-ish and agile... it worked at WVU and will work at FSU.

You are so lucky that you got to go to both National Championship wins. I didn't get to go to either of the wins... but I did go to the '96 Sugar Bowl when we lost to Florida, and the '98 Fiesta Bowl when we lost to Tennessee, AND the '00 Orange Bowl when we lost to Oklahoma. I have promised myself that I will NOT miss FSU's next Title game... I am still hoping it will be this year.

Edit- Rick Trickett did coach O-line at LSU for one year, but then coached O-line at WVU from '01-06 which would make him a key player in Pat White/Steve Slaton attack that was so impressive lately at WVU. The running game is the key to prosperity in Tallahassee and we've got the talent and the coaches to get it going.

Ah man, we have guys like Mr. Groves every year on defense... Tray Blackmon for instance...and several others I could name. Keep an eye on freshman LB Spencer Pybus from Dothan...the kid is already making huge plays...

We just need to keep the kids on the right track and bobby needs to retire soon, I think he is waiting for Joe Pa to keel over, so he can exit with most wins.

groves was on his own level though, he took over games single handedly, I remember talking to him at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Banquet, he was really funny guy to be around, him and Lee Ziemba, now that is a great offensive lineman if I have ever seen one. My old teamate Kyle Colahan who is playing for the tigers right now says he is meanest son of a bitch you ever met in pads, his play shows it too.

LOL FSU having the best defense in the nation, thats a good one. You guys need to get Bobby outta there, then maybe something along those lines will come along. You guys have individual playmakers like always. But come on, you're really gonna make a statement like that? What high powered offenses have you had to contain anyways? After the Georgia Tech game we'll see. But until the departure of the relic, expect mediocrity in Tallahasee.

Couldn't agree more with this guy. They may have one more good season if he sticks around for another one or two. Until he retires, don't expect much...

No one said we've got the best defense in the nation. IGOTJOINTS4YA said we've got the best defensive line in the country (and we may)... but at any rate, that's an opinion, so he's entitled to think that all he wants.

But, you guys are right... we don't have the best defense in college football; only the third best.

But I agree that it is time for Bobby to go. I love him, but he just hasn't been winning enough lately and he can no longer promise high school recruits that he will be their coach their whole college careers. Plus, Jimbo Fisher is gonna get things done.

Re: The Official 2008-2009 College Football thread

The Noles survive a nail biter. That was the most lopsided two point win ever. The Canes only had 256 total yards including just 51 on the ground. Christian Ponder ran for 144 yards and threw for another 159. Antone Smith ran for 92 and four TDs including the game clincher when they were really just trying to get into position for a field goal. Florida State played alot better than the 41-39 score would indicate. The Defense played great and the running game looked good... especially Ponder scrambling. Four turnovers and nearly 100 yards in penalities is something we need to work on, but all in all it was a good win for the Noles in one of the rgeatest rivalries in college football.

Roll Tribe!

Let me get my point across.

Everette Brown is a prototypical NFL 4-3 Defensive end/3-4 OLB, whenever he declares for the draft, he will be picked in the first round and is a higher touted player than any of Georgia Techs Defense and team for that matter.

This is FSU nose tackle, he is one of the strongest player EVER in teams history and is stronger than anyone anyone on Georgia Techs team and opens things up for players like:

Dekoda Watson, 220 pd 4.5 forty

Derek Nicholson 235 pd 4.6 forty

Linebackers the shoot the gaps and possible cutback lanes, it is evident that once the anchor of FSU's defense Paul Griffen came back from suspension that we dominated the competition. This is evident in the first half of the FSU-Miami game, 17-3 . Now only if we could punt the fucking football we might actually stomp alot of the competition.

We will see if Georgia Techs "dated" offense will be a match for FSU's defense, if you guys beat clemson, I will give you some props but I really doubt it. You guys have a good defense to, but it pales in comparison to FSU's.

Re: The Official 2008-2009 College Football thread

dude I was talking about Georgia Tech's offense, the triple option. I know their defense isn't that good but what I was trying to say is that the noles haven't really faced a good offense yet. I'm not arguing about who's defense is better, that's not a question. I'm trying to point out that you can't say they have a great defense until they have faced a good offense.

to your defense I forgot that micheal johnson did not enter the draft last year, he is actually a higher rated DE prospect than any of the players on FSU squad at the moment, not by alot, just he is really fast for his overall size. I really hope you guys beat clemson, sticking it to CJ Spiller for not choosing GT or FSU, and opting for clemson, sticking it to them in the triple option would make me feel so happy. They are the only team I am worried about other than Florida and Bostan College.
