The injury was determined to be a torn ECU tendon shead.

The move to place Ortiz on the disabled list will occur Tuesday, Francona said, and Boston will recall right-hander Justin Masterson from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill Ortiz's spot on the roster. what a bummer about ortiz.. (i do think he's one of those players that is really hard for other fans to hate regardless of your loyalties).
Hopefully he gets back in a month and the sox can pitch a little better while he's gone to make up for the hole in the middlw of the line-up.
I think they'll be fine as long as t doesn't keep him out too long.

This is the reason teams like Bos, NY etc have these huge payrolls, so when something like this happens they still have a ton of talent to carry them, unlike teams like Tampa who would fold quickly if their #3 guy in the line-up were to miss that much time.
