The unofficial NHL thread

I'll start off, I'm a huge hockey fan, I watch any game that I can, especially the Penguins and Canucks. I live in Pittsburgh, and been a Steelers fan as long as I can remember, but I started following hockey in Crosby's rookie year, and it has become my favorite sport, the Pens are my favorite team, so of course I detest the Philthadelphia Flyers. On this thread, I want to discuss anything about the league, from NHL standings, to injures, to the draft, and personal stories, like the first game you went to, or favorite/hated teams or anything relevant to the NHL.

I forgot, 71 Malkin post

I love hockey, im a player myself though im not that great. I used to love watching hockey but now it's turning into a showboating sport like basketball... I mean Gretzke was considered the best player in his time for how well he played WITH his team, as a team player. Now you have players like Crosby who go for fame by trying to always score more impressive goals, by themselves. Also when a season got skipped for pay cuts I lost a lot of respect. I still love to play though, that'll never change.

I love hockey but I have to say its like my 4th or 5th favorite sport but nonetheless its a great sport to watch. Went to school in Boston and learned a respect for the sport but sadly I find myself rarely watching it. It takes so much to dive into a sport and really get to know it, I just don't have the time.
One of the best sports to see live but it's tough to keep up on it.

I grew up playing hockey and actually coached Wayne Gretzkys nephew for a season. Unfortunatly Wayne never came to a game but his brother Kieth (the kids dad) came to them all.
I dont really watch too much hockey anymore, but Ill lace up any chance I can get.

Right now, I believe the Pens are in a 4-way tie with Montreal, Ottawa, and New Jersey, for the east conference lead, tonight, we're playing Montreal, so no matter what the 4-way tie will become a 3-way tie for 2nd between Ottawa, New Jersey, and (hopefully) Montreal, unless Ottawa and/or New Jersey are playing and win tonight, I check on the team websites, when I finish this post, I update.

as for Crosby, he's practicing, and a few days ago, he got his injured ankle clipped, and went down, but continued training like it never even happened, my guess for his return would be 10-15 days, but no announcement was released by team doctors.

Update:
The Penguins are 5th in the conference, and 2 points out of the tie for the conference lead. If the Pens win tonight, and Ottawa loses (let's go Jackets), the Pens will be tied exactly with Ottawa (points, games played, win/loss record, games against eachother 1-1), for the conference lead, and we play Ottawa on saturday, so if we beat Montreal, and Ottawa loses their next 2 (Blue Jackets and Pens), and New Jersey loses on saturday, the Pens take the Atlantic division and the East Conference on the same night.

I'm from Detroit, just take a guess who I root for

They almost always have a great season, and I enjoy the way they play. Too bad they usually make a joke of themselves in the playoffs.

and pipepuffer I would have to disagree. I think the game use to be more about finesse, and is more about speed now.

Watch a Red Wings game... watch how much they pass, especially on power plays. Maybe you're just lookin at the wrong team

dog check the location thats what were all about in my area. i mean the bruins arnt so great but in terms of people actually playing and living the hockey life, its the statewide pasttime. dont be fooled by the redsox or the patriots or even the celtics now. hockey is the sport of mass. im glad we got a thread going on this, too bad theres no where near enough understanding of hockey in this country. what dont people get about it?

Pens and Senators tomorrow at 3:00 P.m. (eastern standard), winner takes conference, considering what is at stake and the talent on both sides it should be a hell of a game.
Also I find it interesting no one posted supporting a team I strongly dislike, I like Detroit and San Jose, Sabers are my third favorite in the east, I wonder why, there have to be some Flyers, or New York City hockey (hate both teams) fans. oh well, those teams suck anyways, we don't need that filth in this thread.
should I express hatred for any teams in a thread I started?

I'm a huge NY Rangers fan. I have a game used & autographed Henrik Lundqvist stick from the season he won the gold medal in the olympics. If you guys want to see some pics then let me know and I'll post them up here.

EDIT: forgot to mention I myself am a goalie

Pens just traded For Marian Hossa, man that team can definitely make a run in the playoffs especially when Crosby gets back.
