Cheap cloning method, no hormone, 1 week roots!

I found that humidity is infact the best medicine for trying to root clones. I was able to root 9/15 clones without any cloning soulution, in but 7 days. First of all, I was able to use a simple plastic container, with a top, and razored out 15 2" sized plastic pot holes, and 2 very small holes for 2 hoses that connected from a 2 slotted air-pump to 2 air rocks. I filled my small container to the very top with 3 gallons of water, adjusted to the correct pH. Second, I placed my clones about 3/4 of the way in to 15 rockwool cubes. I placed them into the very bottom of the pot's, making sure that the end of my clone was right over a hole of the pot. I then placed into the pot's small hydro rocks around the rockwool to keep it in the middle of the pot. I then placed all 15 pot's in to holes I made on the container. Third, the end of my clones were very close to the water, but not totally touching it, only getting splurted by the air bubbles that the airrocks provided. I then put a very small amount of a grow soulution into my water, and then re-checked the pH, making sure it was perfect. Fourth, the most important part, I took a small vaporizer like such: http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...BUY-PLST-0-CAT and I put a hose to the part of the machine that put's out the vaporized mist, making sure that all the mist would go into the hose, rather then leak into the air. I then took another container, this time clear, and placed it over my clones using it as a humidity dome. I then drilled a hole into the side of my clear container, allowing the other end of the hose to fit into the hole, without leaking. I then placed a couple very small air holes at the top of the container, to allow the humidity to recycle. Fifth, I took a small 40wt flourescent light, and placed it over the humidity dome. Your creation should be like such: A small container, surrounded with a lightblocking surface, filled with 3 gallons of pH perfect water, that have a small amount of grow soulution in it. I then placed onto of the container, the cover that has 15 small holes with pots in them containing my clones, growrocks, and rockwool starter cubes. I then have a small airpump blowing air into two airrocks, inside the container. Ontop of the container is another small rubbermaid container, clear, providing a dome for the clones. A vaporizor is connected by a hose to the clear humidity dome, blowing mist inside the dome. The water used for the vaporizer, has a small amount of grow nutrients that will provide the folige of my clones to get nutrients to them, keeping you from having to spray them yourself. Shining very little light, a 40wt flourescent light is outside the growdome. This worked very well for me folks. I'm guessing with rooting hormone on the clones, that you'll get roots on all of your clones. It only took 7 days to see roots! The mister fills up the dome so well, and then the air bubbles help keep sufficent air to the clones. Just a little bit of nutrients were used. This can be made easily by things just laying around the house. Obviously, thats always better then having to pay for stuff. Remember, I didn't use cloning gel for my clones, but if I wopuld have had it, I bet I would have got a 15/15 in the first week. Almost the second week, and just but like 3 have roots. I'm very happy. I just bought soime top of the line cloning gel, however, hoping that will speed up the promise to maybe 4 days!

what you created was a fogger but only for the top seciton of the plant, better would have been to place the hose to the container and do away with the water and bubbles and simply put the clear dome over it with some extra holes in the container for some of the humidity to get to the dome as well.

PS, product called EZ-cloner claims to do it in 3 days with no rooting gell, its just a tub like yours with the clipping held in holes with foam.. they charging something like almost 300 bucks for it, i made one myself

Sweet to hear that- Rooting in 7 days with/o hormones. I use rootech gel for my cloning. I set up a plastic bin/bucket. Used a 2" hole saw and drilled out the amount of holes i needed. Then with some 1/2" pvc i made a little square with mister fittings with attaches to a 275 gph pond pump. The system sets inside the bin/bucket with the water. The pump pushes the water thru the misters and creates massive humidity in the bin. That technique will get you roots in 4-5 days. Proven! - Remember! while rooting, clones require lesser levels of nitrogen and greater levels of phosphorus to promote rapid root growth. I achive a 100/100 ratio with this method. (heres an added bonus) I have noticed with certain plants (ie. Black Domina shows it the best) that as soon as i see a good dozon roots (5-6days) i can immediately put it into flowering (@ 4" in height) within the next 3 week into flowering the clone will streatch to about 3'. There is Zero time wasted in the process of veg to flower. Now liek i said not all Be Wise

I would still use root tone, but I agree that if you take care of the moisture levels, they will pretty much all root. I clone alot and lose very little. 100% success is more often than not (when I lose one it is something that I do wrong).

Glad to here it works. I made a bubbler clone tub. I used net pots with hydro rocks to keep the stem in place. I put a bubbler in each pot and connected the air line through the bottom of the net pot. I can leave the bubbler stone in and use it during flowering in addition to one on the bottom of the bucket, to get air to the heart of the root system once the little pot goes into the big pot for flowering. I cut the clones as typical and used roottone. This is the first time i have used so we will see how it works in a bubbler style set up.

What is the wonderful virtue in not using rooting hormone?? I bought a little pot of hormone powder for a few cents about 20 years ago, a little goes a real long way, I still have half of it left.

Are you too poor to afford a few cents, or too fucking bone idle to take a trip to the garden centre?

Root tone has rooting hormone. Honey just tastes good.

Willow branches!

You can make your own rooting hormone with willow branches (chop them up and soak them overnight in water, or longer. You can refridgerate/freeze the liquid, too).

Another cheap tip is to have a ripening banana or apple (I use apple) in (or near the air intake of) the propagator; the ethylene gas it gives off promotes rooting. Don't cut it, though, as it will mould and cause your clones to get fungus (I did this first time I tried it, and it was a bugger to get rid of the mould, though the clones did survive)

I just drop them in a coir/compost mix (in home-made newspaper pots). I start hardening off after 5 days, remove them from the propagator after 7. I haven't lost a clone yet.

Keeping your clones in stasis in the bottom of the fridge for a few days will get them rooting faster, too. They can live for many weeks in there (in a zip-lock bag). Cut them slightly longer than needed, and re-cut them when you put them in the propagator.

Keeping clones in stasis is also handy if you want to take clones in one phase of the moon, and root them in another. After around three weeks in stasis, they are less likely to root, apparently, I haven't tried keeping any that long. There's more details on this in the overgrow faq, if you can find a copy.

Scarification also causes explosive root growth in clones.
