Quick question about a hydroponic setup.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong here.


My friend and I are setting up a Hydroponic system for plant growing.


We plan on having a tub, with continous running water going through it. The plants roots would go through a metal grate like thing and suspended into the water.
The water would be treated with the needed nutriants. And their would be the nesscary lights for the plant as well.



I read the stickys for Hydroponics but I need clarification.




If this idea for a Hydroponic setup would't work whats a cheap way to set up a Hydroponic system? What materials would be needed e.t.c.?

Ya--I thought it would work.
Yet in terms of gemination I'll geminate the seed the normal way.
And should I start growing it till it gets some roots in dirt, then remove it from the dirt and set it up in the hydro system??

ah the seed to hydro problem....from what i can remember its hard to find the answer to that even searching og i didnt find much....heres a link to my first hydro grow where i go through that http://forum.grasscity.com/showthrea...ighlight=hydro ..
another way is to keep th eseedling in vermiculite and or perlite(sp?) for a bit then transfer...up to you....in time you will grow with clones if you carry on...lol...trust me...

I just started a bubble bucket grow and went from seeds straight to rockwool and hydroton (expanded clay marbles). I also tried my first set of clones strictly using rockwool with mixed success.

I'm much better at using soil for seeds and clones then washing the roots of when still very young and potting right in hydroton, but I'm a noob hehe.

With a "hydro bucket" you still have to have lights for the plant right? If so how do you pull it off?


What are "air stones"?

And how do you use the hydroton?


and is it possible to simply transplant the germinated seed--into dirt, then put it into the hydro system?

something i dont use along with rock wool...ive read to many threads saying they had probs with them so i dont use them...i have no need...

Heres my way of seed to hydro

When the seeds have germinated I transfer to jiffy or peat pellets after the roots start to grow out of the pellets I then transfer to rockwool cubes which i can place in my nft set up or my dripper system that uses hydroton"expandable clay pebbles..

But finished with seeds now chronic clones for me...

why do you go from jiffy to rock wool?..why dont yo go straight from the jiffy to the clay balls..

my clay balls arent expandable.....well i dont think they are ...they turn into dust if you stand on them...lol..

Could do that? but i use a drip tray and find the rockwool better less watering steadier foundation for the plant and also because its going into nft system easier to cut the cover out for a []...

Yes you can, I used to just use rockwool only
but find the jiffies easier, plop them in the water feed already made up for the little ones

its one of those special lights ... i think harry potter uses one for his inside grows.. ..
