Grafting a Multi-Strain Mother --- widow, purps, kush and more

So here's the project.

Just started growing a local cross called cranberry for a mother plant when I realized I really wanted more than just this strain for a mother, but I just don't have the room for more than one mother. Reading what I could find on the subject, I feel confident that I will be able to graft up to four strains onto this one cranberry rootstock.

I started with a good LST on the cranberry just a few days ago and it seems to be adjusting well. I had a lapse in my thinking and forgot I had nutrient rich soil and gave it some fish emulsion. BAD CHOICE. Still trying to get it to recover from the nute burn. But it is getting better. I will be taking clones half way up the plant in a about a week to prepare for the grafting of the first two strains. Hopefully it will be totally green by then.

I picked up two clones today from the dispensary and have to say they look great. I got a White Widow, and a Grandaddy Purple to go along with the cranberry. These will be vegged for about another two to three weeks before attatching them to the cranberry rootstock.

The method for attatching them from what I have heard and seen with orange trees (never done it with bud) is you take the stalk of both plants where you want to attatch them and you shave the outer layers off. Then you cut a toothed pattern into one, and an opposite pattern that will fit into the first on the other. You put rooting hormone between them and tie them together and cover (wrap it with medical tape, like a wound). After a month or so, check to see what happened! Hopefully they are attatched and you can remove the rootstock of the successfully grafted strain.

I really hope this works. It would be so tight. In a few years when I get sick of these strains I'll flower it outside and get all those strains to bud on the same plant it will look so cool! I'll put it in a 25 gal grow bag or something...

Suggestions? Thoughts? Put downs? Handjobs?

PIC2: White Widow clone
PIC3: Grandaddy Purple clone

Re: Grafting a Multi-Strain Mother --- widow, purps, kush and more

well I can tell you it has been tried .. and yes you can get the grafts to take..bvut you will be shorting the viability of 2 of the strains .

the reason , diffrent strains have diffrent needs.. so you will be "shorting" 2/3rds of the plant somehow ..and THAT WILL LEAD to crappy clones.

ohh and NO WAY will it efffectvly bud if they take for the same reason ( think about it )....sorry man

peace
but keep thinking outside the box (+reppin for that BTW)

EDIT: nice lookin cuts from the "local" BTW

I don't get how I'll be shorting the 2 strains with a heavy indica rootstock, could you explain that? The genetics don't change, so the clones will be the same as I have now, if I understand genetics correctly... I understand that they have different needs, but there are ways around that. Like individual foliar nutes on each strain (if that's even necessary, I think they'll be fine off the rootstock). Thanks duder.

Well good luck man, keep us updated! i have heard of taking differnet pollens and polinating different parts of a plant, but that would result in different strains of seeds, if you got it to work. Sounds very interesting, but like others have said I think you are gong to run into your share of problems. That is not to say it would be impossible though.
