Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

I saw a video on you tube showing how easy this is. It shows putting a seed directly into the “X” cut cross hairs in the S2G cube, addin RO H20, putting the cube in a dark place for a few days and the sprout is out and already in your cutting/seedling medium. No transplanting from paper towels to rock wool cubes. If the video was right this should be real easy.
So here goes.

First, I placed the Dinafem seed just under the “x” cut by about an 1/8 inch.

Next, I placed the 1.5 cube into a Rubbermaid clear container, everything is still dry.
3rd, I soak the cube directly under the RO H20 faucet and let is drain till it stops dripping. The cube is heavy & hold lots of water.
4th, I put the lid on top to seal the deal, and stash this away in a dark kitchen cabinet, and hopefully I’ll remember where it is.

I’ll mist these twice a day with RO H20 till I see a seedling.
Let’s see if this really works before using our good White Widow seeds in a few weeks.
Stick around, I'll be back in a few days with good results, I hope....

Less than 48 hours into this & we have germination!
Look real close & you can see the taproot
I'll report at the end of the day. Hopefully the stem will right itself properly & we'll have leaves by tonight!

48 hours since placed in the S2G cube.
I now have her under a CFL in the closet.
3 more days I can expect a tap root poking from the bottom

Welcome Herb

Hopefully these will help do away with Rockwool and presoaking, Ph'ing and all the other Bullshit Rockwool presents.
But, FWIW in my current grow(see signature) I was such a noob, I never presoaked or PH adjusted my rockwool and everything workout just fine, except for the ph swings I had during veg.

Pretty cool. Nice how neat and clean it was to germinate. Now I just need to get set up for hydro. Using FFOF currently, but it's my first time growing. Seemed like the simplest route. BTW, which free seed is this? I have the Blue Hash and the Blue Widow growing. You can check them out in my sig link.

I think it would be OK to start a dirt grow with these & then just bury this cube once roots have penetrated the bottom.
This is a "Dinafem"

IMHO Dirt looks like more work than Dro, once you have a system set up. With dirt all you need is a dixie cup, with Dro you need buckets, piping, air stones.
I'll agree dro is more involved in setting it up but once both are growing its about the same, but dro give monsters in less time.

I'm not doing anything with the 6"er, But I did buy one just to see what it is, Its a 6" x6" square with a cut out for the 1.5" cube. These are just like rock wool.

So these are definatly capable of germinating/propagating seeds and easy at that.
I may just stick this into the 6"er & put it in the net pot and see how it works. I'll have to see how my timing goes with the new grow cycle 4-6 weeks away. You'll have to stay tuned to see.

FWIW... I think, these are advertised as not wicking, but the top of the 1.5'r is wet enough. When you pick up the cube you can feel the mass of the water weight is on the bottom of the cube. I remember the rock wool felt balanced when soaked.
I know its easy to see the tap roots in the rock wool when they penetrate the wool but a white tap root on a white cube may be a challenge for me to see.

72 hours since placement

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

I'm actually getting cylinders, not cubes. These fit directly into net pots or any other 6" pots.

I won't be actually using them until my next grow though, so it will be a few months.

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

Well I rushed puttin her into the bubble bucket
Whether she roots in the bucket or in a propagation tray won't matter.
I just have to hand water her for about a week....
