they do work and for now thats all I can say but so does Rockwool along with our conversation on another thread.... "ph neutral" I found this on wikipedia, and yes, you were right. Pure water is said to be neutral. The pH for pure water at 25 °C (77 °F) is close to 7.0. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are said to be acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are said to be basic or alkaline. Not sure what all this means in comparison to the rockwool. |

If i was going to use the S2G cubes in a hydro system, i'd probably soak them overnight in pH5 water (like the rockwool), to lower the pH level in S2G cubes. But, by the looks of things your did fine without doing than. Keep it up, you are now teaching others a thing or two. |

+rep Thanks for the pics - looks like the STG works. What is it made out of? I've always sprouted in rockwool - and have never rinsed them before hand.

Now I'm going to "experiment" with more S2G product. What I did was, I had a 5" S2G Cube, ![]() I cut off the top & showed it into a 4" netpot. ![]() I then took this bud that I cloned ![]() and put it into the the net pot full of S2G & I then put some of the S2G clippings & filled the hole in the top. Now its sittin in my bubbler. ![]() I'll post pictures in a while if roots make it out of this & into the water Or I'll post pictures of a failed experiment. I gotta tell ya, the S2G holds a lot of H20 & I find it a little hard to believe there is room for any Oxygen in there. plus the roots, while established, were not very long, and the 4" pot is packed maybe a little too tight with the S2G. If this works, in a timely manner, I will order the S2G 4" netpot inserts. I can then totally get rid of Rockwool & Hydroton!!! |

77401, did you compress that stuff when you put it into the pot? I think they need to stay the same volume in order for the roots to get through them efficiently. Might be tough to penetrate if the material is compressed. Can't tell from the pics whether or not it is.

I have no idea what this is really made of but it was a little tough cuttin with a scissors. This experiment has a lot going against it, short roots on a clone, clone from flowering with buds, compressed fill,

I'm pulling up a seat, 77. Make sure to cut of the light supply to the wet S2G. Even if the roots do get oxygen, you have the stem to consider. Having the lower stem constantly wet will give it stem rot, in theory, you seem to be on a loosing battle lol. As i say, i'm keeping an eye on this experiment, hope everything goes well for mate. |

I don't know how much covering the S2G or RW does. but, I just cut a square of Panda film and covered it. BUT Now I think I'll remove it. LOL I REALLY want these to work. So, I'm neglecting the little details that could make it an easy success. Let me see if it molds or root rots or if roots can make it out of the pots. I may order the 4" net pot cylinders to do more experimenting with. And then do a test, doing everything right!
