Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

Pictures as promised.
One Dina fem tap root as ordered started germination on 8/22. So 11 days in a S2G cube, this is about average I think.
Now for my clone attempt in the S2G.... I took 3 clones from the lower part of a White widow in flowering. Not the best choices for cloning by any means but its all I was willing to cut.....
So of the 3 clones, the one in the EZ grow, black thing is doing the best and show'd roots first.
BUT the 2 in the S2G cubes are still barely alive & one has roots poking out too! The other is hanging in there but it could go either way at any minute.
This is the clone....

And this is her 4 roots at 14 days since cuttin
and for the competition.....the sure2 grow

How far into flowering before you took those cuttings?

Good Question!
The clones were cut on the 19th, the switch to 12/12 was 7/28.
The cuts were actually skinny stems that would get cut regardless since they are so far from the lights to make buds
Yes, I think I know how lucky I am that these even took.

The clone will make it...it's getting good roots. Remember next time to cut the fan leaves in half...like chopping off fingers at the knuckle.

Seedling is a DinaFem, free thanks to Attitude. I don't know squat about the dinafem plant yet, but If I let it live, I'll research it.
The clones are White widow from my grow
I'll never say never, but I am liking the hydro.

My thoughts are to run the dinaFem in the next grow and to make a mother out of the WW in the EZ grow starter. I think the last of the S2G cube clones will get a T.O.D. tonight, which will leave me 2 surviving WW Clones.

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

I think I'll wrap this up with my final conclusion
Yes! you can Germinate straight into the S2G cubes and go from there like you would with any other starting medium.
Picture below is of the DinaFem with its 3 leaf set coming out.

But as far as cloning withthe S2G's I have not had good luck, but remember I don't have a clue about cloning, really. But FWIW the EZ grow starter, that has nutes in it has done way better than any of the S2G's. I did have failures with the EZ's too. So the cloning is in no way a scientific measure.
Your Mileage may vary

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

you ever consider cloning or growing without any starter medium?

it can be done with just ht but its a little tricky but its worth it to not have to worry about the medium staying wet in hydro

Yes I have! I have the parts order'd to build Rumples Cloning Bucket, But i first have to establish a healthy mother, and I think I have one clone ready to become a mom.

I've read where it looks easy, but all the pros make it look easy!

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

it's all environment 77 and with clones it's the right humidity and soft constant light and a clean really sharp cutting tool

medium, nutes, hormones, etc is all grower's choice

I use rooting powder most of the time. sometimes I root in ht and lavarock and other times I use small bits of rw,even the occasional peat plugs but they almost all root. that was after countless attempts at killing most of them (2/3's died early on)

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

Just for Proof that its easy to use these Sure 2 Grow for germinating I did it again....

2 days and 10 hours ago, I put a White Widow (fem'd) seed from Attitude into the Sure 2 Grow cube. I even buried it approximately 3/4" deep.
I then poured RO water on it, put it in a rubbermaid food container, snapped the lid on it, & put it away with my coffee mugs.

Here is the result......
How much easier can starting from seeds be?
No more....soaking seeds in water
No more....paper towels
No more....transferring seeds to another medium

For you Dirt growers, you can use this to start, then once roots are poking out the bottom just place it in your Soil.

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

Thanks for the thread. I've been looking around for some testimonials on the STG media. Think I'll use it to germinate for sure.

Re: Germinating with Sure to Grow 1.5” inserts

I just started new seeds yesterday but I dont use any fancy blocks, plugs, inserts or anything like that. just seeds in paper towels in small tupperwares, misted once to start so far

they're in a drawer alone in the dark probably scared too
