LED grow 2009

Hi folks, just starting up a little journal here on my led experiments. The first, which I posted here yielded 3oz from 7 small clones-220 watts led. This time I'm running 700 watts between 2 2x2 homeboxes. Each one set up for their respecvtive purpose.More red configurations for flowering and blue configurations for veg. With the required white leds of course. The pics were just taken a couple hours ago.The redder flowering tent has a nightshade finishing up.The veg tent is 3 nightshade clones, 2-himalaya gold seedlings, and 1 lowlife ak47-just for the hell of it. Will update regularly.

Re: LED grow 2009

Thanx guys- the strains I pick, mainly indicas, work great with this tek. You see the idea is to use the leds greatest advantage- the ability to put them up close. And you need 1w or higher diodes to make it work.China panels are only good for side lighting. I've got the new 90w illuminator( that'll make 2 in the flowering tent+ the 660nm red 90w ufo) coming monday, so we'll see what some serious led wattage can do.

Re: LED grow 2009

wow. did you make the fixtures yourself?

are they special LED bulbs for growing?

i use led's in the sign industry and wondering if I can use the same "bulbs" from my wholesaler and build the fixtures myself.

i wonder what covering 4 sides of a box and the top would yeild....too much wattage/lumens perhaps.

you could wire up a computer and have rotating patterns to better replicate rising and setting suns and summer/fall spectrums. bah

Re: LED grow 2009

thanx everyone, this is a young technology and like all young technology there's a great deal of cost.I'm just gonna say that 700w of led- which is what I'm running now- cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500US. OMG-that's the response I usually get-I get anger alot.I dont understand it It's all in fun. Ande it works-

Re: LED grow 2009

Great to see someone on the cutting edge of this technology actually doing experiments for the greater good.

+rep for being an innovator and not simply dismissing LEDs as "not good enough"

btw, have you seen the philips k2 bulbs that put out light in the 2700k and 6500k spectrum, rather than specific wavelenghts? crazy stuff! (LUXEON K2 and LUXEON K2 with TFFC LEDs :: High Power LEDs << data sheet)
