Re: Bubble cloner...stems in or out of water?

Try cloning in some water with 0 Do in it and all the nutes and gels available and see how well it works!!

Re: Bubble cloner...stems in or out of water?

In fact during photosynthesis plants actually release O2 into the water, then during the dark period(which is when they actually make roots, But they will still do dark time things in a 24/7 cycle just not as efficiently)when they resperate in the dark they use the O2 in the water... http://bcn.boulder.co.us/basin/data/COBWQ/info/DO.html

What i mean about the dark cycles is that if you dont give your plants a dark cycle they will do the same things in constant light just not as well or quickly! You can clone in 24/7 just not as fast!
I learned that one in the ezcloner onb 24/7 nothing was rooting for weeks, turned the lights to 18/6 and roots over night!

http://sgs-hydroponic.com/?page_id=179 Clones grown in rockwool or other soil like mediums have plenty of O2 available to the roots because the water going over the media when watered pulls DO down into the medium and the multiple surfaces and pores hold the O2 in there thats why you can use heat mats and really make the roots spring out...In water based mediums the warmer the H2O the less DO is in it and the less your plants get...The optimum water temp/Do is 68 but this is a little cold for cloning quickly..the ultimate areocloner room to water temp is room 70 water 72

These links should help but the following is taken from Wikipedia and I think that answers it the best!!!

Benefits of air (oxygen)
Clean air supplies oxygen which is an excellent purifier for plants and the aeroponic environment. For natural growth to occur the plant must have unrestricted access to air. Plants must be allowed to grow in a natural manner for successful physiological development. The more confining the plant support becomes, the greater incidence of increasing disease pressure of the plant and the aeroponic system.[1]
Some researchers have used aeroponics to study the effects of root zone gas composition on plant performance. Soffer and Burger [Soffer et al., 1988] studied the effects of dissolved oxygen concentrations on the formation of adventitious roots in what they termed “aero-hydroponics.” They utilized a 3-tier hydro and aero system, in which three separate zones were formed within the root area. The ends of the roots were submerged in the nutrient reservoir, while the middle of the root section received nutrient mist and the upper portion was above the mist. Their results showed that dissolved O2 is essential to root formation, but went on to show that for the three O2 concentrations tested, the number of roots and root length were always greater in the central misted section than either the submersed section or the un-misted section. Even at the lowest concentration, the misted section rooted successfully.[1]
