Re: Cloning For Dummies

Another question once the rock wool has been treated to 5.6 pH and lightly squeezed to remove excess water...
a few days down the road what pH of water do you moisten the cube with?
also should this water contain B12 that your watering with after treating the cube?

Thank You

Re: Cloning For Dummies

I use distilled or R/o water....one gallon mixed with a tablespoon of seaweed extract two drops of super thrive and make sure to keep the water 80 degrees! Good luck

Re: Cloning For Dummies

Using rockwool cubes with a humididome/heat mat. Clonex clone solution phed at 5.7. Tap water that I let sit for 24 hours.
I water the cubes every 2 days and mist the clones 2 times a day.

Should I be misting them with the clonex clone solution too or just plain phed water?

Getting a little yellowing on the lower leaves, is this normal?

Its been 9 days, I expected roots by now but as long as they root I can wait.

Re: Cloning For Dummies

how much light do you have them under? how are you cutting? what are you using?
and what is the exact temp of the roots...

-gonna need to know and keep that temp around 80 for best results....

-use very low flourecent lighting...Ive rooted under hps and metal halide with a shade but low blue light works best.

-cut at a 45 degree angle, with woody strains scrape some of the very outter stem with a blade about a quarter inch from the cut down to the cut then dip in rooting gel.
I have very good sucess without making my cut under water.

-dont over water and mist too much...if theyre in a dome your humidity level should be 50-80% without even misting.

-if your using flood trays make sure you have fresh water and whatever nutrients your using. Keep this solution circulating, have a bubbler for oxygen and a heating pad or a submergable water heater. Flood your tray so your cubes or plugs have about an inch of solution in the holes. only the bottom quarter of the plug will be submerged.
You will notice the water disappearing when they root...after about 6-10 days you will have long webby roots.

**Add some live bacteria

I am using a 600wmh but keep it about 3 1/2 feet above. I cut the way you mentioned. Root temp is good.

When I mist should it be with plain water or weak solution?

How About the yellowing of the lower leaves?

Your trippin man....did you not just read what i said....you only need like 15 to 100W of flourecent light on them.

The reason your getting yellowing is because the plant has used up all the nutrients inside the cutting and has not produced roots to uptake more nutrients. WhEN cloning you want the plant to hold off on photosynthesis(LEAF GROWTH AND USING WATER) to produce roots with the water and nutrients left inside a healthy fresh cutting! CUT OFF MOST LEAF MATTER AND USE LOW LIGHT!

YOU SHOULDNT HAVE TO MIST IF YOUR USING A HUMIDITY DOME!
if your using any kind of HPS or MH misting is a no no. It leave small droplets on leaves that act as a magnifing glass and burn small spots all over your leaves.

Well the good thing is I didn't get any burn from misting. I have to use this light cause its the only one I have right now. I keep the clones pretty far from the light (like 3 and 1/2ft).
Should I chop off what is yellowing or should I just let them be?

Re: Cloning For Dummies

use a white trash bag or smthing to block the light comming into the dome....leave everything else and I gurantee you will see results. I cant tell you what to do with the yellow guys. If I was you Id kill them and wait a week to take more clones.

If you bought these clones and arent cutting for your own mothers then you better block that light as much as you can and cross your fingers....people will tell you the yellowing is good...Its not. any leaf that is 50% yellow or more / is 50% dead or more cut off

Thanks bro.
I'm gonna move them way off to the side out of direct light so they won't be getting slammed with 600w of direct mh. The light is already high above them but It can't hurt to move them away some more. Gonna give the yellowing ones some time before I cut any more leaves. I talked to a buddy of mine and he said some strains yellow for him too and they still root just fine. It makes sense to me because its only the Strawberry Haze that's yellowing, the Delahaze clones are fine but they did root faster the first time I took clones bout 3 months ago. They rooted in 8 days.

Again, thanks for the help. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Re: Cloning For Dummies

All,

If using Rockwool cubes in a closed plastic tray with a vented dome do you:

1. Keep a thin layer of water on the bottom of the tray or continually re-wet the cubes? If there is no thin layer of water the cubes dry out quickly even with a dome, however, it seems that this is over-saturating the medium.

2. Add rooting hormone, such as BC Grow's Thrive Alive Red, to every subsequent watering of the medium or only add plain water?

3. Spray with Neem once during rooting?

4. Spray with Thrive Alive once during rooting?

Thanks

Re: Cloning For Dummies

dont use neem unless you have bug problems...

add enough water so that one quarter of the cubes are submerged after they have soaked up as much as they can.

make a solution of seaweed extract(tspn per gal), super thrive(one drop per gal) and if you want use a cloning solution but just the thrive and seaweed will work

Re: Cloning For Dummies

I was thinking over the weekend...why some people may not get good cuts...heres one suggestion that will help

Make sure the blades you use are sterile and if your using a razor blade, dont use the ones for the box cutter or dry wall knifes that arent wrapped in cardboard

alot of industrial blades are coated in silicon or oil to protect them and this could cause your cuts to never root and get air bubbles trapped in the cut.

take it easy guys

Re: Cloning For Dummies

I just saw this in Miles Grow Journal and knew it would help.

when you take a cutting make sure to cut off all but the top set of leaves and trim the blades.

heres Miles' explination why

Re: Myles' summer of madness!
"plants lose water through the process of transpiration. This is when water evaporates out of the leaves and is lost. Since clones do not have roots to supply the leaves with ample water, trimming half of each leaf helps decrease the amount of water lost and in doing so increases the vigor of the clone "

this guy knows his shit....I couldnt have realyed that in those clear words!

Question Re: Cloning For Dummies

Feminized seeds... Question?

Does anyone know if it is okay to use clones from a mother plant that was grown from a feminized seed. I read an old article from Feb. 2000 in Cannabis Culture. It said that clones cut from a mother plant that was grown from a feminized seed were not good to use.

I know back in 2000 feminized seed technology was fairly new and was wondering if 9 years later this would still be the case.

Are clones, from a mother plant, that was grown from a Feminized seed , Okay to use? be just the same or better?

Thank you in advance to anyone who knows about this and contributes to this post.
