need help with 1lb/weekly (perpetual grow)

first off i currently do not have this grow-op under way as its still in the planning stages. i have limited experience growing, as of now i have 11 plants about 5 weeks into flowering ranging in size from 4-7 or so feet. some plants stretched because they were not given enough light under a 400w MH. i have since added an air cooled 1000w hps with a carbon filter and changed the 400w to hps also. im using 5 gallon buckets of black gold soil and botanicare grow, bloom, calmag, sweet, liquid karma, & hydroplex. the plants are doing well but hard to tell what they will yield since i havent grown in the past.

my plan for my next grow is to start a perpetual grow. i need help choosing a strain for my next grow. i would like a plant that can yield 1lb. or more of high potency bud per plant when grown under a 1KW HPS with a 24 week total grow time. the reason i have a 24 week limit is i plan on starting 1 new clone a week (taken off a plant further along) meaning i'll never have more then 24 or so plants in my grow room at any one time to minimize legal issues should anything unfortunate happen.

as far as lighting goes i plan on using three 1KW bulbs with 5 gallon buckets, any advise is welcomed

The whole idea is to keep the plants super short and pack as many as you can under your lamp to increase yield.
I have a hard time pulling a 1/2 lb. off of a pretty good sized plant grown outdoors. Unless you want an eight foot monster with fluffy buds along the bottom you might want to scale back a bit.
Try 12 clones in veg room while 12 are flowering.

edit: plants can more than double in size after you put them into flowering. Those 4-7 footers are going to need 12-14 ft. ceilings.

haha thanks but i think u are a bit mistaken. the plants i have now are reaching about 7 feet well into flowering. i want to start the perpetual grow after these current plants are done.

veg room: i was thinking i could have 2 400w MH in my veg room where i can keep plants 1-12. the abundant MH light should keep them rather short even though they would have 12 weeks for vegging.

flowering room: the flowering room would hold plants 13-24. these plants would all be larger then the first 12 so they would require more light. i would flower plants 13-18 under a horizontal 600w HPS and then use a vertically hung 600w between plants 19-22 and another vertical 1000w for plants 21-24.

so thats a total of 3000w lighting (majority in flowering) the reason i plan on using vertical lighting in the later flowering stages is i think there is much better light penetration to all the lower bud sites making them grow larger. i've seen similar methods used to grow massive trees. krusty for example was getting 3-3.5 pounds a plant, given he was using much more electricity then me so that helped. im not looking to get 3lbs./plant just about 1/plant so i think it can be done with some practice.

if i have to use all my lighting energy in flowering to attain my ideal yield then so be it i'll just end up doing all my vegging under LED lighting as it seems to be quite promising. problem with led grows is they seem to suck for the flowering stage.

as i said this grow is still in the planning stages. i may end up going with a strain that doesnt even require 24 weeks to grow. sativas are my favorite bud cause i love the haze taste and smell but i may end up growing a good indica strain since they generally yield even more then sativas and also take less time to flower. if thats the case then i really do think it is possible to attain 1 pound per plant weekly and i may be able to have even less then 24 plants in my possession.

the room is 16x8. i plan on setting up a hydro hut 4x8 closet for vegging, that should keep the different light schedules from interfearing with each other. i guess what im really looking for is the right strain to grow. has anyone tried purple wreck from drchronic? i wish i could find results for all these strains when they are grown large. seems most people just go sog.

you should look into New york diesel.


its a good commercial strain in my opinion. ive never growin it commercially using SOG. but my grow was little. my friend grows grand daddy purple and NYD using the sog.


its a dank strain and really easy to grow.

haha diesel is some good trees but the smell is crazy. i have a carbon scrubber and fan going to help control the smell of the haze i have growing now but those plants are nothing compaired to the smell i've seen diesel and some kush strains emit.

purple kush is a strain that has really caught my eye, from what i've read the smell isnt too bad and the plant yields decently when sogged. i may pick some up and try a sog and also try vegging them for 2-3 months before flowering. im looking for a strain that can support about a pound a plant when grown 5-6 month.

Ok let the master of all trades step in... First off, I reassure you that your friend does NOT get 3.5 POUNDS per plant indoors. More like 3.5 ounces and thats if your growing them with lst, scrog, some really good grower with a lucky set of genes, or some other method. These are pictures from a few years back when I was growing. Here are my reviews:

Blueberry - Tiring, knock out, good to smoke before you sleep high
Power Plant - Social high, fun, goofy, bud that you can always have a good experience with
White widow - Potent good yielding option, typically higher yields than most strains grown
Euphoria - Grows a thin stock so it gets top heavy very easily, buds are sweet, good taste.
Mazar - Indica based, not super potent but a descent yielder, similar to widow
Power Skunk - My favorite, covered with trichomes, looks like a white strain more than anything and the yield is high and the stocks are trunks.
