hey guys im seeing different numbers everywhere from a search

how far should i keep my 400W HPS from my plants they are in 4th week of flowering and i used to have 20 CFL's on them so how far pleease

they usually say about 10 to 18 inches above... but it all depends on how well your cooling system is. for the most part your plants will let you know if its too close or not.

alright thanks i used to have 18-20 cfls in my closet 4 of which were 42W and the rest 26W so i invested in a HPS and had it 6'' away last night and they have minor burns so thanks a bunch

Yeah, keep it as close as you can without burning them, and still having even light distributed across the plants.

use your hand mate

put your hand,palm down,on top of your plant & leave it for 20-30 seconds & if its too hot for your hand then its too hot for your ladies
adjust light till its ok...........sorted!...

I use a 400w hps and keep it close as hell to my plants all you need is a strong ocsilating fan to keep blowing off the heat and a good exhaust to vent it off and your good the hand method works to.
