Wort extract for sweetener?

Hey whats up all? Just a quick question about a possible organic sweetener for an outdoor grow. Has anyone used wort extract as a sweetener? I'm thinking it could be a pretty economical and potent carbo-loader and sweetener. It's for home beer brewing. The ingreedients are pretty simple, just barley/oats/wheat and water, with all the sugars/carbs extracted then boiled down to a super concentrate, so why not? Does anyone have any words of wisdom on this one? If so, what kind and how much per gallon?

THANKS!!!!!

Great idea, but it can't be cheaper than good old molassas. I've brewed before and I seem to remember the stuff being a tad expensive to be pouring into a hole in the ground (literally!)

Williams cheapest malt extract is $16 for 6 lbs. + shipping. I'd just go with molassas myself...

Thanks for the input, SlowcalaToker! I'm thinking that for my use (4 three gallon pots), 6 pounds of extract would be a s-load!! I usually go with 2 tbsp./gallon of water with molasses. If I could get away with 2 or even one tbsp./gallon of water with extract, I think the 6 pounds would last me all season. And we have a homebrew shop right here in town.

Another question for ya. Once I've opened a can of extract, if I close it up after use, and put it in something like a ziplock bag, do you think it will last a while?

Thanks!!

I've only used botanicare sweet with good sucess, you could check out some of the ingredients and maybe get some ideas. It's an organic fert, so if you get over making you own you could just buy that...
