you always got something new goin` on.

looks awsome, are you just gonna let them do their thang in them cups for a while?

will such a small root space limit the plant to the size you want, or will they keep stretching regardless?

Well looking at Mr Postmans thread I think they can last in the cups for a minute, I had to xplant the OG today cuz she was showing serioius signs of being rootbound, but Im only xplanting them to small pots (not sure the exact size), from then on Ill be root trimming and adding new soil to the bottom as needed when they become bound, which in theory I could do with the little cups I believe.

I would xplant all the "bigger" ones to little pots right now but I dont have space in the cab. I will be flowering one of the bigger bon sais in the cab just as soon as I harvest whats in the flower cab now.

the few plants i've let get root bound have started to turn ugly on me, they never seem very happy being rootbound with me.

A few of those 2 to 5 gallon "smart pots" should work well for you. They are made of fabric and are very durable and because they are fabric, they air prune roots.

Im interested in this, can u give me a link or more info, granted I havent googled yet lol but I will now.

Mord, I hear u, my OG was looking pretty shitty so I had to xplant. Did u trim the roots and add back fresh soil as descirbed in the bon sai threads???

Heres the OG pre-xplant and the ring of roots that were at the bottom

Shes xplanted to a larger pot now and perking up already. Hope she makes it, the clone was free from the club and I can get more but who knows this might be some real OG u never know nowadays. Id love to flower her sisters out and get some dank. Obviously

I will look into the "smart pots", thanks for the tip

nope, never intended to keep them small, so there was no root training or anything, just noticed that you have to keep on top of that with a plant that is soon to be, or already rootbound, they start getting all crappy looking

Absolutely. This shop has 2 locations in the Portland metro area here and is very reliable too.

Here's a link to their "pots" page, which has the smart pots ranging from 2, to 10 gallons. http://americanag.com/products.php?cat=149&pg=3 - look at the bottom of that page, and then look on page 4 (link at the bottom of that page as well)

No problem.

Also, I thought I'd tell you.. The guy at that shop said a 5 gallon bag can basically grow a plant that would usually need a 10 gallon pot. Because of the air pruning, the root structure is healthier and grows in the soil better, instead of just to the and around the edges of the pot. This means more roots in the same space, which means a larger, healthier plant.

I don't know if his claim is true, but I do intend to test it on my next set of clones which will begin flowering this week

these pots look interesting.. do the roots eventually poke through the fibers on the pots?

Dope man, thanks again for the 411

The heavy root structure is what Im goin for and is actually why I am starting them out in small pots and moving up sizes gradually as they get root bound. This is a concept from Postman and it makes sense to me that doing it this way will allow the roots to form a more concentrated mass in the end than starting them off in the larger pots would.

Good shit man

I doubt it, because they air prune the roots. I don't know for sure though, I haven't tried them. I'll be picking some up sometime this week though.

What does "air prune" mean?
