Clones Won't root. HELP~

Ok so I took a clone about 1 week ago and 4 more 3 days ago. But the clone I cut a week ago still has not rooted. I basicallt just cut at a 45 degree angle under water then used liquid and powder root hormone on all of them and stick the stems into a small rockwool cube... My temerature for the clones is olny 70 degrees though and they are in a hmidity dome.

Do you guys think they will make it? Also is there anything I can do to make sure they root?

are you cutting all the leaves off your plant? if not, they may be struggling to keep all that vegitative matter alive

Give it time. A week isn't very long.

Some things I learned about cloning that helped:

1) They seem to root faster when the light isn't 24/7. I do 16/8 for mine.

2) Don't water them every day. I go 3-4 days between waterings. In theory, a little dryness makes the plant want to grow roots to search for new water. That doesn't mean let it totally dry, but don't keep it wet either.

3) I never trim the leaves. I know a lot of people say you should, but in my experience the bottom most leaves dry up on their own as it's growing roots. The plants own genetic programming is pretty good at making sure it's not supporting more vegetation than it can handle.

I just had one root after 19 days. It was an experiment I was running about rooting cuttings from flowering plants. 19 days is a very long time, and I don't think I'll run that particular experiment again, but that gives you an idea of how long it can take. In my private grow journal, more typical examples are 10-11 days.

correct, however as for #3-- the reason you find that the bottom leaves just die anyway is because the plant has no roots to support that vegitive matter. it trys hard to support it, then finally dies, if you would trim them it could use all that energy on producing roots, and keeping the veg thats left up top alive

That's one theory. Another theory is that the plant uses the nutrients from those leaves in making the roots, and trimming them away will slow things down by denying the plant that nutrient source.

Maybe some day I'll run an experiment and root two cutting side by side, trimming the leaves from one and just leaving the other. In fact, that sounds like a great project for down the road.

Peace.

well I have had the same thing happen to me took 17days to get roots on sum, I found that low temps were most of my probs!
but on the most part if they are still alive they will give out some roots at some point in time !! if not they will die and you will not be able to stop that !!

cheers & goodluck

Cool

Hi mate, i find that good temp and a good air supply make a big difference.I put lights on 18hrs/7days and mist the leaves twice daily, and trim the leaves.:wave:I use vermiculite not rockwool. I get roots in 7 to 10 days.
