Ebb & Flow?

Hey everyone.

I would like to build an Ebb & Flow table, Ive been looking at pictures of them and the parts used to make them and it doesn't seem like it would be hard to build my own with the right parts. But my question is, I see everyone talking about how you want the most room for root growth and the tables dont seem like you would be able to get alot of growth without the roots getting bound and not to mention the not so deep space of the table. Can anyone explain to me how efficient the tables are? How does the limited space let me grow decent sized plants?

As far as I know plants are in pots and the pots sit on the tables, water rises into pots etc. My seedlings sit in a black tray and instead of watering each individually I just pour water into the tray.

I was not a huge fan of the ebb and flow system for the same reasons you pointed out. the plants are on a table and not supported very well and they do tip over easily. the roots are out and not protected at all.

I use a rubbermaid tub, the one with a nested top...I use the nested top filled with hygroton and the bottom is the res...I just pump the res to the top and let it drain back into the res...works for me...I can put 6-8 plants thru harvest easily...plenty of root-space...I only used a 430w SonAgro hps, so plants were kept under 30" tall...plants loved it...
