My two cents mate: The idea of the small tub will work but you will have a hard time keeping your nutes and PH optimum unless you keep them really small i guess. I have had one plant in a 10 litre tub and in no time the roots filled it allowing me to only add about 2 litres of nutes. I would go for a 67litre tub, with half the plants = less hard work and more optimum yield. Looking good, shame about your ballast, we cna buy second hand ones here for $40

Man i reckon it will turn out awesome for ya!
I must have missed the bit about the res, very nice setup, looking forward to watching how it comes along. Good Luck!

I think im going to modify this to a drain/fill shallow water culture, as I've no experience with areo and it seems simpler to have 3 feed tubes and 3 drains rather than multiple spraying heads that could potentialy clog.
build date is coming soon, my current grow only has a few weeks left. |

just soemthing to think about...
the waterfall (or river as MrGS liked to call his) has been fantastic for me so far It definitely aerates the water a LOT and I have not run into many of the typical hydro issues (yet) that I see plaguing many new to hydro growers also it really does seem to me that the lavarock and the bio aspect of bio buckets makes a difference too, probably more than the aeration method (I'd add it to any system that uses a res just to be on the safe side) and I have had the same solution in the machine for over 8 weeks, no dumping or anything, just a few top offs

the bio component is really just the lavarock cultivating beneficial bacteria, nuthing to do with nutes or anything
Without the lavarock and it's comfy little bubbles it would be homeless bacteria, so even if micro introduces these bacteria (which I dont think it does) it would not sustain them in solution (I look at it like coral with a lot more o2) I came across this aspect of hydro when MrGS sent me a few links about the waterfall method so I could learn from the source and it seemed to me that THAT was the kicker about the system, more so than the waterfall aeration alone... now ymmv cuz he also said that the lavarock should pile up over the waterline in order to work, somethng about aerobic bacteria needing air, but that caused algae or fungus (?) in one of their systems but that may be temp related... I didn't read anything like that while looking into this about the waterline so I just dumped a shitload of lavarock into the root zone and so far so good according to lucas the formula has everything a plants needs, no extras = no imbalances and so far that's what I am seeing in the IMgreen machine, just massive lush green development on both strains AND when I compare my first hydro exp with many others, I see a flawless execution in my grows and many problems elsewhere (root damage, fungus, slime, algae, etc) I dont have any of that - all I use is the floranova bloom and some ph up&down, dont even have hygrozome * I dont mean to sound like such a know it all already, I don't have enough experience yet I am just following directions and the machine is doing it's job very well is what I really mean... ![]() but it aint luck, it's design and simplicity - the fewer the variables the better

[quote=mordgrow;1867729]im thinking of setting up a DWC system for SOG style grow, the root room for an 8 week flower cycle strait from rooted clone wouldnt have to be that large i'm thinking. I've noticed that I dont get a huge root ball untill after about about 10 weeks of veg, and in flower maybe there's less root growth ?
I am doing a small SOG test with soil, and what I have seen as far as root grow goes is that they grow a lot faster when I put them in my flowering room, I had them in 2L containers for about 1 month veggin and they still had space but I added a second 2L container to the bottom before it went into the flowering room and it just filled it up with roots in about 1 week.. ( I used clear plastic containers so I could monitor root growth) |

wierd, I always thought veg was the time for root growth,
I'm pretty sure I'll be doing a "waterfall" like system sorta like what IMGREEN is talking about with 1 res feeding 3 containers, but i'll have air stones in each container (the 3 plant holders and res) so I should have plently of airation. not too sure about the lava rock,.. I dont think I'll have algea issues, so i dont want to introduce something else to complicate it. but who knows, maybe after a run or two i'll try some rocks, but if they are supose to go in the root zone, well I'm going to be pretty cramped for space as it is, I dont know if i could squeeze rocks in there. |
