bonsai mothers

I'm planning on taking some clones to grow new mothers soon, and after reading a few posts on bonsai I want to grow these baby's oriental! I've never done a soil grow before so I'm a little nervous, and being so my first coarse of action is to ask ya'll! I'd appreciate any info or links and answers to these topics;
how to prune
what soil is best for this
how do you prune roots
when do you take the plant out to add soil and clip roots

things i do know; lst and a 4 inch cup.
