Bubble Bucket or WaterFarm?

What does everyone think? I figure that the Bubble Bucket costs about the same to build as it would to order a GH WaterFarm Bucket. Which do you think would give better results, and would be easiest to use? (especially in a scrog setup)

Waterfarms are simple to use and you don't have to build them. The air pump they come with needs to be tossed in the trash. Drill an extra hole and add another air stone.

A five gallon bubble bucket will give faster results then a water farm. I think it has to do with un-obstructed root growth. I had Waterfarm units mixed in with my bubblebuckets, the growth rate was obviously faster in the home made unit. My guess is the roots don't have to grow through all that hydrotron clay pebbles that take up half of the Water farm's container. I did not do any scientific studies on why I got faster growth rates with a home made unit, so it could be a number of reasons.

My opinion on the Waterfarm is, they are great. Clean, simple and low cost. You could get or make a better unit, but why would you want to?

R.

Thanks for the advice. What size airstones do you think are best to replace in the Waterfarm Unit? Also where can I find an airstone/pump? A pet store possibly?

Another question I had was about changing nutes with the Waterfarm. Is it possible to change the nutes while the bucket is in a scrog setup?

Ive used my waterfarm on my first grow and will be using it again forsue on my next one, check out my grow journal in my sig. Anyways i would rather go with the water farm than with a bubble bucket. Hydroton is a good growing medium and you can always get silica stone or something fancy for ur next grow. Also i dont know what rumple is talking about the pump the waterfarm comes with is perfectly fine it did the job well and i even used it for an air stone and the drip i would switch off every few hours. It also has a farily great amount of root space cause once the roots hit the bottom of trhe first bucket they sorta layer on top of each other evenly.

If you grow in the Waterfarm, buy a dual outlet air pump and add an air stone to the bottom of the unit. This was a great grow tip I got on Overgrow for the folks using the Waterfarms. The type of air stone you use does not seem to matter much.

I installed a drain valve in mine to make draining much easier. You can use the sight indicator to drain, so leave room to move it into the drain position.

Best of luck, R.

That sounds like a good idea Rumple. Do you have pictures you could show me of how you modified the Waterfarm? It would be really helpful, thanks so much for the advice!

Dude you should really listen to Rumple, Rumple's bubble bucket is wayyyyyyy better then the waterfarm The BB has more root space and more powerful air bubbles, Why take the time to modify something average , when you can just build something superior in the first place, don't want to sound pushy, just a thought.

Thanks SteveDave.

I had my Waterfarm so drilled out and fixed up it just seemed natural to just make my own bucket (it's how I got my bucket design).

My advice (now that I have thought about it more): Use the Waterfarm as is, or build a bucket from scratch. Making mods to the waterfarm would be as much work as making a bucket from scratch.

$50 per unit is a deal. You can always make buckets later. The Waterfarm will grow great plants.
