Thanks, mon. I think I'm getting the best I can out of 2kW and a flood system for the effort I'm prepared to put in.

Keeps working, too- who says there's no magic puddings? Just add water and electricity.

Yep, I've been using a bud dryer for years. There's a FAQ entry on it over here on rollitup.

However, I have recently fully rebuilt the thing. Version 2.0 needs a couple of tweeks before it's ready for primetime, as it were. When I get that done, I'll do an updated post.

The 400HPS over the mums has been replaced with a metal halide retro-conversion lamp. Rather cheap, make sure you shop around. We'll see how we go.

I have got before and after cuttings pix of the mums as they were while vegging under the 400HPS. I'll try to document any differences under the MH as they happen.

What strain are you using and can you do this with any other strains and have it be as effective as this?

This is Sweet Tooth #4 from Spice of Life Seeds. Sprouted the beans about 7 years ago, been propagating cuttings ever since. Not sure whether ST4 is still available as beans, may have been superseded. ST4 is a fairly indica dominant hybrid, squat plant with broad leaves, heavy yielder. Good for this application. I'm sure NL or other mainly indica strains would work pretty well too.

How do you think Pure Power Plant would react to this sog? I dont have anymore clones of skunk #1 because a spider mite problem so i scratched everything and im starting new with what i heard was a good yielder and a good smoke! Hope this works as well as yours does but i definately be on a smaller scale than you bro. I must say though that your grow is awesome and i'm definately following in your foot steps!

Another question i wanted to ask is do the 2000 watts of lighting really up your electricity bill that much? People kinda make me afraid to get 2 400 watts, because they claim that electricity cost go up dramatically. About how much did yours go up from the use of the 2000 watts or was it really a small change?

PPP is described as a sativa dominant, but like DrBudGreengenes says, you can use just about anything. SoG will give you a bunch of top colas of whatever you use. If you already like a strain, you'll get the best parts of a strain you already like. I reckon indica doms, Afghani etc. will make the best total weight per batch, though. All depends on what you want to do with the op.

Probably a real smart move.

You shouldn't have any problem with the growing style. It does depend on more individual plants than other methods. A good per plant yield for my op is 1oz. The hardest part about it is training yourself to prune off ENOUGH of the lower branching. Cutting branches off a flowering plant which is doing rather well is counterintuitive at first. However, if I am not ruthless, there will be crowding problems causing restricted airflow. You're looking for just a mainstem stalk with a top cola and about 10 fat buds on the nodes below the top cola main cluster.

heh, thanks for the compliment.

You're right, 2kW is a gob of power when you start running it every day for 12h/day. My power bill went up a LOT. You can work out your own power cost by multiplying your power usage by your pwr co rate. Check your bill, should be around 8-12 cents per kilowatt-hour. A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is simply a 1000W (1kW) load running for 1 hour. Could also be a 500W load for 2 hours or a 2kW load for .5 hour.

I went about increasing the efficiency of other things around here. Put in solar water heating and replaced all incandescent lights with CFLs, added some more insulation in some places, fixed a lot of air gaps around doors & windows. The power bill is now slightly LESS than it was before I built the op. The solar water heat was a large part of the savings.

Ok so i think i did this right and i came up with a 400 watts x 12 hours= 4800 x .08=384? that number seems like really wrong, lol.

My formula is probably way off! Can you help my determine power cost!

Also after reading what you said about PPP being mostly sative i decided to just use those in my dwc and i'll try to find a indica with good yield and a good high to put in the sog.

Al b. if its possible could you email me @ drac989@cox.net i would like to talk more about your setup! It rawks my world!

You were close- just forgot to convert watts into kilowatts (400W = 0.4kW).

12 hours x 0.4kW= 4.8kWh. If your power cost is 8c/kWh, a 400W for 12hrs will cost (4.8* $0.08 =) $0.384 or a little under 40c for 12 hrs.

Thanks for the compliment, but kindly keep queries to comments in open threads where others might benefit from them. You can PM if totally necessary.

Al, I went over there and looked at your dryer set-up...Nice man, real nice.
