Small Scale Ebb/Flow Single Plant Unit

Found this on the web and found it a neat little idea for those who may want to try ebb/flow techique without going overboard buying supplies.

Only suggestion i have to add to this is to make sure no light gets inside the container so tape it with black tape or spray the outside.

hey that is pretty cool DW. I'm sure glad I've done some reading before I saved my pennies for an expensive complete system. there are so many great ingenuitive ideas out there to do it yourself for so much less. I wish I had the room to try more of these type experiments all at the same time, lol.

thats pretty cool. on another note this would be great for breeding on a small scale. just make two of them little contraptions build box that you could put them in, so as they dont affect the others (if you have others) and you'll gain the money back on the seeds you just spent your whole wad on. i say this because everyone who plants seeds seems to be pretty bummed when they get males, although expected 50% of the time its always a bummer. when taking one of your females and mating it with the same plant only male i would think you could make all if not 10x your money back on the seeds, and you'll have that many more chances to grow the strain again and get things right. just a thought...

Only 3 probs I can see, pepsi bottles are not all that stable(very easy to knock over) 2) not much room for the roots and not much of a resevoir. But it is a novel approach and if I was going to do it, I'd use the 3 liter bottles.

Dont think it was meant to grow them to term, its a good/cheap way to get them vegging good without wasting precious space in your real system.

dw,i have a question if i may.if i was to put one of these together using a 10 litre bottle,and the timer set like this one on 15 on 15 off intervals,would the pump create a bubbler effect inside the bottle due to the fact that it had passed all the available nutrients up to the media within say 3-4 mins through air pressure from the pump.So for the remaining 11-12 mins the pump would be keeping the feed up in the root zone,hence bubbles passing through if i got it correct this should be great

yes it does
i saw this and threw together a 5 second one
it pushes the water up then bubbles in the top pot when all the water is in there, i was thinking about a couple ideas, i use a dual line air pump, run a splitter off each line and run 2 pots off the one and then just adjust the air pressure (if you have a pressure dial) and set it to just fill it in the lenght of the timer increment.

if you follow that...

it is a good idea for short term vegging, but if not light proofed it will cause long term problems like aglae and root rot eventually.
