Yes because when you spray the clones with water you want that water to stay on the leaves for as long as possible.

Ha... well I might as well pull the whole f*ng Plug. The pH inside the cloner was just tested at 8.85. I just ordered some pH down so I will probably have it by next week. I might have to put one of my two moms in flower along with the one clone that did root [from the jiffy mix method], because I have almost smoked up all my herb from last summers harvest. The ppm in the tank is 495, probably too high for clones as well.

The towel under the tank is getting wet as well. I don't see any water leaks and I don't see any holes on the bottom. I would not think condensation would be forming on the bottom either. Hmmm...

Who knows?
Hydro pH always has a tendency to fluctuate. But since it already started at 7.18 with the high pH water we have, it fluctuated up and screwed me over. The pH buffer should help that.

I don't know about this bubble coffee pot thing. I've been doing a side-by-side with a couple of cuttings that are in rockwool cubes. Their hood is a 2-litre plastic bottle with the bottom cut out. Since my others(in the bubble pot)got a little hot the other day. I've set up this real cool vegging area but I haven't ducted it properly as of yet. So the other day when I opened it up the temps were at 90 F ! I just about chit! So even though they are still green and are still basically growing north, I don't think they'll be of much use. So my conclussion(till now)is that the rockwool stays almost too wet by just the simple misting of the leaves a couple of times a day. I can take 4 cuttings per soft drink hood, and be able to leave the rockwool in a 4 piece set, without having 4 seperate blocks of rockwool falling around. Although the bubble coffee pot thing can work I feel that good root gel, proper temperature and misting of the leaves is really all that is necessary for propagation. And of course, some kind of grow block system. I feel it is important not to disturb the crown of the plant after germination or propagation. Just like humans, what doesnt kill them only makes them stronger but all that creates stress and uncomfortable growing conditions. Making the growing cycle longer and costing more $

Several cloning questions

Hi, I have several questions regarding cloning.

First - Must the mother be in vegetative state? I have 2 females that I'd like to clone.

Is it ok to take cuttings from the bottom with just a couple, or even no pistils?

To be straight, is this what I want? -I want a cutting 4" tall with 3 sets of leaves, and I should remove the bottom set, leaving only 2?

I have a rooting gel that you keep the cutting in. Do these work? I figure I'd make the 45 degree cut under water with a blade and immediately submerse in the gel, then I'd put them under a humidity dome about a foot away from a compact fluorescent.

Supposedly, when i see the roots through the gel, i transplant. Has anybody ever tried this?

If you simply cant clone from a flowering plant, how do I go about revegging? What effect does this have on the clones?

you can clone from a flowering plant. i've done it as far in as 21 days. everything takes a little longer, but it can be done. as long as what you're cutting is a growth tip, you can use it. rooting gels, powders work well. i like dip-n-grow.

What do you mean by growth tip?

This isn't the kind of gel that you dip a cutting into and then put into another medium, this stuff is the medium until you see a healthy root system.

yo, growth tip is like the end of a stem/branch that is growing up/out. like the top of the plant. it grows up and out. you can't like, clone a leaf. i've read about the gels. i'm sure they work fine.

Ok, that's pretty obvious, thanx 4 the clarification

How long should a cutting be? How many sets of leaves should it have and how many should i remove?

Playing with a different set-up for the coffee can cloner. I took all of the hydroton out and just have water in the pot with hydrogard and root solution. I take cuttings, soak for 15 in root solution(1tblpergal), then put cuttings in neopene holders and float them on the percolating water. I replaced a small air stone with one of those big disk ones! I think this set-up will work a little better.
