lighting cycle question

O. K. experienced Grasscity growers I was looking at another thread tonight and got to wandering about this. I was reading about a realyl short lighting cycle, it's like 10/8 or something.Or maybe it was8/6 or something. DOES anyone know abut this short lighting cycle ? I read that it produces buds faster, but the buds won't get as big as ones on plants on the 12/12 lighting cycle. Any input will be appreciated. peace

And just to let you all know, when I said that I was reading about this lighting cycle it was somewhere else on the internet not on Grasscity. But I got to wandering about it when I was reading through a thread on GC. Peace

something to play with...

You have it about right, I think.

Shortening the light cycle during flowering will force the plant to complete its reproductive cycle more quickly (it's thinking, "Shit! Winter's coming fast!"), but because there's less net light hitting the plant over time, the buds will be smaller.

It's a trade-off. Do you need big buds, or fast buds?

I have no experience with this, I'm just going by what I know about plants and light cycles. I guess the differences wouldn't be huge either way.

If you want to play with shortening light cycles, you could always compensate by providing more intense lighting (say, add a MH lamp for progressively longer periods), and perhaps additional UBV (for an hour or two at "midday"), so the harvest is fast, big, and juicy.

Giving the plants a good dose of darkness (say, 36 hrs) before they go into flowering is a good way to speed things up a bit.
