NEW Method: Max LST Method

I hate to toot my own horn but this is the shit. I came up with a good way to keep plants low and even. What you will need: White light fixture egg crate covering, zip ties, and ganja. First smoke a spliff and reflect on the principles of basic LST. First why use LST? Well if the plant grows in its natural way it will produce a large cola at the top and each successive lower branch will produce increasingly smaller buds. The light is basically wasted if it is not presented to the plant in an even way. Basically the top branches get the most light while the lower branches get much less light. One more toke. Another problem with the natural growth pattern is that it will focus its energy in the upper most points. My theory is that the plant is a hydraulic system designed to move water from the soil to the air through a process of transpiration (water is released by the foliage). This is called wicking. I think that the plant wicks the most water through the highest points and therefore the nutrients in the water move with it. Now the whole principle of LST is to spread the branches out give them more light and try to keep the growth tips as even as possible. Another advantage is that you can keep the main trunk of the plat low and even with the top of the opt. This method takes up a little more space, but I think the yield will be about the same as if the space was filled with twice the number of plants. This cuts down on legal issues and also maintenance.

Puff Puff, Getting on with it. I’m using soil, so a hydro set up may be a little different as far as mounting the rack. First you need to let your plants veg for a few weeks. It needs a little height maybe 10 inches. Next you need to make a rack to anchor to. The rack will let you tie the main trunk of the plant to it. Basically you direct the growth sideways. Using the for mentioned egg crate by cutting it into sections that are equal in width to your pot and about 14 to 16 in long. Next drill 3 holes in the pot about 1 in below the rim. Now lay the egg crate on the pot and but it up against the trunk of the plant. You can also notch out the rack so it fits around the trunk and this may save space and provide for additional anchor points. Pass that J. now using the zip ties and the holes you drilled to mount the rack to the pot. Done! Now just lay your plant over the rack with a 90degree bend in the trunk. It may be necessary to do this step over a few days if you think you might break something. As you lay the plant over the rack try to pull all the significant branches and leaves to one side or another. Now you can just start tying branches down until you have an even canopy. I’m going to keep tying branches down for the first month into flowering. Then ill let her go as is after that. I’m seeing sooo many good looking bud sites with this method.

BUT, that is an swesome screen! Could you give us a picture of a crate before you cut it up? I really cant visualize what it came from. I definately want to use that.

Most Scrog screens are all uneven and ghetto lookin, but that one looks real clean.

I'm using sheets of fencing lol. They have ones with thin aluminum frame and 1"x1" holes. Spray paint them white and viola! you got a great screen. I guess it would work for people with a large are as the sheets are 5'x6'

I had originally wanted to do a scrog but it looks a little cumbersome. I like to be able to rotate the plants and move them if necessary and with scrog that’s next to impossible. With the zip ties and create its so easy to direct the growth. Chupa is correct in that the principles are not new, but I haven’t seen this method being used so ….Its mine, all mine and I call it Max LST. LOL

Thanx for the pict, but i dont think ive ever seen one of those things in my life. Where did you get it? From the supermarket? Those holes, are they big/spaced enough to hold eggs? Sorry for dumb questions, but i really want to find that thing, looks too perfect.

Hey man, there is nothing ghetto about a nicely painted sheet of metal mesh with a frame. Besides with the milk crate thing you might have problems with getting the buds out once they ripen.

ive never done lst myself but if you dont mind i would like to suggest a way you could get better use of your space. instead of putting the crate/fencing to one side of the pot, you could try cutting a maybe 6" hole in the crate while the plant is about 5"~ then just have the plant grow in an lst'ed circle around the pot. not sure if it will work as well as it sounds but thats just my 2cents.

I bet you see those "things" every day and dont even realize it. They use them to cover flouresant lighting fixtures in stores and restraunts. The holes are only about 1cm by 1cm.

I did some training and fed the girls this weekend. The buds are really starting to beef up now. They are putting on about a half inch a day! All the buds on the main trunk below the cola are also beefier than I have ever seen before. Its clear that light penetration is much better and all the buds are growing huge as a result. I took a few shots yesterday but they never do justice. But check them out.

I tried that first.Check my old post, i have good pics of just that idea. These plants actually started out that way, but it quickly became apparent that I could do better. When I was wrapping them I noticed that the growth in the center was becoming congested. So I changed over to the rack. It looks like it uses a lot of space but I think it’s the best possible use of the space. If you want to see a carpit of green than this is the way to go. Its like Ganja Shag Carpet. <o></o>

Thanks. I switched over to the 400w HPS about a week or so ago. I noticed a slight difference in the growth rate, but its hard to tell. I have a few clones going and im going to do a side by side grow to test my 400wHPS vs my new t5 setup. Its so hard to gauge performance with just one crop since the growth rate of MJ increases through out the process. But shit i fed the girls on Saturday and they are shooting up. i gained an inch on my buds over the weekend! any one who’s grown before knows that most of the buds along the stalk are usually small and spindly but all i can say is that there’s not a small bud on these plants. All the buds are knotting up and getting all crystally.
As far as the grate goes i got a 4'x2' panel of egg crate at the Home Depot for like $6.00
