1st hydro grow.

Heres a couple pics from my freshman go at a hydro setup. Ive got an 18 gallon tub from the home dePOT 2 12" bubblers in it.

I have a 600w hps that has a electronic transformer that can adjust 75% & 50%, so I have used it from germinating.

I only germinated 3 seeds. 2 Kahuna and 1 Northern Lights. I plan on topping everything since I have so much room.

Sorry the pics were takin with the hps on and are very yellow. It seems like they are taking forever to grow at this stage!

They sprouted over 2 weeks ago. I just added some nutrients 3 days ago and they seem to be moving a little faster now. One really stretched out, but the others are nice and short.

Uhh to be continued.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

How well is the root system on your babies? They may not have enough roots to gather the nutes. I had to establish a very good root system before mine were going strong. I used an aerogarden to start mine and that thing just makes the babies grow like lighting and they also get great root systems very fast.

Looks like a nice set up you have there. Good luck I will be keeping an eye on your grow.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

I turned the light to 24/7 as the space was getting too cold with the lights off. The growth this weekend was pretty nice.

I also started to wrap the tub in the metal tape. The reflectivity was so much I stopped. I dont want to burn the underside of the leaves. What do you think? Should I wrap the rest?

I also need to add some more nutes I think.

Pretty much looks like a cellar you got there and you an assume that it will remain colder in there, even in the summer. If you can, get a small, very small, heatless heater with a combo fan and put that with them. I vegged mine at 24/7 the entire time. It will not hurt them and they really do like it. Under 24/7 my babies grew a full 1-4 inches at day from week three of seed to flowering. I stopped measuring them at that time. I have one that is a pheno of the sativa side of my Sweet Tooth and it got a little out of control. If you plan on getting any clones over growing is sometimes nice.

They do look better. Keep it up. ANy questions just ask. Dont know much but I can tell you what I do know. I do not know why you are covering the tub. Once your babies get a little bigger the light will not even help them from below. But I did make sure to put a white paint liner, the ones you use to paint with and not get it on your floor. They make them in clear, white and black. A white one drapped on the floor would do much more for you.
Peace

I do not smoke, grow or keep cannabis products. I just want to act cool.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

Oh and one more thing, lower your lights. Keep an eye on them for the first ten mintues to make sure it does not get too hot for your babies. After that you can just check it every couple of days to make sure they are not in the heat part of the light. It does look like your light is too high. Good Luck

I have read that the roots need total darkness, and thought the tub is dk blue the light still shines through. Thats why I was considering wrapping it. I think I read this from the bubble bucket thread.

You mean the drop cloth for the floor? To put on the floor? For the reflectiviy I am guessing?

Also I just raised the lights about an inch. They were about 28" away and I didnt was to burn them, but I will check it out again tommorow.. Whats the ideal space for 600w hps? I have read many different things.

edit I actually lowered the light to about 16". Using my hand to see the warmth.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

My 3 are under a 600 and its only about 10" away, you might want to turn your fan up a lil.

Also wrapping the whole tub in reflective tape wont hurt them as long as the tape isnt wrinkled up which can create hotspots and do nasty things to your leaves. Just take your time and do a good job and youll be fine.

My space is actually 4x4 but im gonna run a scrog under the light.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

10" would be too much for me. I dont like the idea of a fan being on 24/7 so I have it on 4 times a day on a timer. I did wrap it in tape so they should be good.

Ill keep an eye on your grow. It looks like we are in the same boat. Im thinking that starting with only 3 seeds was a bad idea, hopefully we get all girls.

Ill get some pics up tomorrow, they seem to be doing well.,. so far..

Re: 1st hydro grow.

1st one and 3rd one are the Kahunas, middle one is Northern lights.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

When you are this stage you might wanna consider using either a CFL light or MH instead of HPS because HPS lights are meant to mimic the fall season sun... and the CFL or MH lights give off a spectrum of light thats experienced duting spring/summer seasons.
But so far so good. Goodluck with your grow!

Do you think using a metal halide in the beginning makes them grow better/faster?

My buddy only uses 1000w hps and has been growing forever. I dont really want to spend the xtra cash for a bulb right now as I just bought 2 for my reef tank and they were expensive enough.

I might try on the next grow and compare the difference.

Re: 1st hydro grow.

Here are some pics. 2 of the plants are droopy

The last one I just fimmed, so the leaves are xtra far down, but the middle one is droopy anyway. The color is pretty green, the light makes them yellow.

I just received my tds meter last night and did a quick test, and only came up with 160ppm??? I followed the directions on the dyna-grow nutrients, and then cut everything in half. I dont know why the ppm was soo low though. I think this might be the problem with them?? They all have been fimmed and are healthy just droopy and slow growing..

Unless you think this is a bad idea I am going to bring the ppm up to around 800 and see what happens.

What do you think??

Orr maybe I should be a patient grasshopper
