Still Growin' with Bubbles: Perpetuating The Habit

I'm back! And this time I'm going with a perpetual setup. I built a 3'x8' flowering cab, where I will have two grows, staggered 4-5 weeks apart. All Vegging will be done in the 2'x6' veg cab. My hope is to have a decent harvest of at least 6oz every 4-5 weeks.

I built the cab to be completely alterable to accommodate any type of grow, but for now, I'm sticking with the tried and true DWC.

For this round, I'm going with:
  • ScrOG
  • Recirculating DWC
  • 600w HPS
  • ~70-75F
  • ~30%RH
  • Tap Water
  • 5.8 Ph
  • Advanced Nutrients

For my initial grow in this new setup, I vegged in the flower cab, but normally, I will be vegging in the veg cab, haha. Here's pictures of every 4 days.

And Today, I start 12/12! Here's a couple of right before I switched to the HPS bulb.

I'll be starting the other side in 4 weeks, but it still needs work. I haven't decided whether I want to reduce my plant number to 4 or maybe even 2, Rumple-style. I think I could fill in this screen just as well with fewer plants, so I don't see why not. here's a pic of the new clones & mom. I had a problem with the clones this time, and they really stressed out. I think the problem has been fixed with a good cleaning of their bucket.

Yup, that's a clone I took of a Jade plant, if you were wondering. she rooted too!

A couple other pics of the setup:

All questions and comments are appreciated. It feels good to have my little piece of the city again!

Very nice man! Everything is so clean and organized, and your screen is filled in very well, you should get more than 6 oz I assume.

yeah, I agree, but 6 zips is my goal. Its what I need to get to be completely self-sustaining.

Thanks for the kind words, I've been watchin' yer areo setup, looks like it's gonna do well!

hahaha, glad you asked, my friend.

that's a little rig that tops off my buckets.

my Recirculating DWC is just a prototype, but it's basically the old design of the 2-liter ebb & flow system that has been out forever. I just made it so that instead of draining, I use air stones to give my roots oxygen. A pump inside the rez turns on every 4 hours and fills the upper buckets, and when the water line reaches a certain level, it drains back into the rez. I used 4" PVC drainage tubing, with a mesh pot that fits inside the tube. The ebb and flow design allows me to empty my buckets into the rez at any time, making changing nutrients very easy.

My reasoning behind this crazy setup is the idea that I wanted to grow my plant in the smallest container that I could. My thinking is that if I reduce the amoutnt of water in the pot, while keeping my airstone output the same, it would result in a higher concentration of oxygen. As the roots grow and fill up these 4" tubes, the less water it can hold, creating an even higher concentration of oxygen, while still keeping the roots throughly moist. Because my pump re-fills the buckets as often as I desire, my root area will never go dry.

I have to say, it seems to be working splendidly, we'll see what happens when those things are packed with roots.

No noise issues here, DWC is almost silent, unless you think bubbles are loud. The loudest thing im my room is that damn 6" fan. I wish it wasn't so very nessicary.

DWC is the way to go IMO, just biuld 1 bubble bucket to try, and my guess is that you'll never go back. You can make DWC as simple as an airstone in a bucket, or as complicated as mine, but I think you'll be impressed either way.

Shall be trying a DWC soon for sure but bubbles have been a prob for me untill now that is, have just found the perfect air stone or more like air bomb from my local hydrostore. Its a round 2" ball airstone thats heavy as hell so doestnt move around and the flow of it is more like a volcano eruption than bubbles but no noise so have been and bought noe for every tank in my rooms just got to isolate the ruddy vibrations now from the pump itself. Have already got it on 3 layers of acoustic mat and you can still hear very faint, will try to hang it from bunji cord at the weekend or build an acoustic box for it.
