starting seedlings

i was wondering if it is ok to start my seedlings under a 400w mh , as long as i keep it a good distance away from them? i have been hearing different things about this,the shop i bought my light from said it would be fine,is this true?

As long as they're far enough away not to get burnt, yes.. I'd test it with bagseed before I threw some real seeds under than bad boy though.
