lighting questions

ok im kinda limited to growing in the attic, and i think fall/winter would be a fairly good time to start as the heat is bad in the attic in the summer in SC..
but my question is this
i have one light in the attic, a friend told me i would be able to screw an outlet into the wher the bulb goes, and run an extension cord from there
and then running bulbs out of the extension cord.. is this possible?

what are these called? prices pics etc

thanks in advance
