Unhappy I'm SOOOO Confused - HELP!!

I've smoked for a long time now but this is my first serious attempt at growing. I have 2 plants each growing in a 3 gallon pot in a mixture of potting soil & peat moss for good drainage. I'm fairly sure I have one female, the other I can't yet tell the sex. My "good" plant is about 15 inches tall with 5 sets of leaves. I try to keep them on a 12/12 cycle or as close as possible & they have SUPER ventilation with a fan on them 24/7. The information that I'm seeing & hearing is what has me confused....I've been told to leave them on a 12/12 cycle for flowering but I've also been told that to "force" the flowering set them in the back of a dark closet 24/7 until flowering & budding is complete. Which is it? Do I continue on the 12/12 cycle or do I stick my female in that closet & leave her there until she's ready for harvest? I have a slipped disc in my neck & muscle relaxers & pain pills have done nothing but this may come from the fact that I have to see military Dr's who aren't much help - the only relief I get from the pain & headaches is from smoking. I'm VERY anxious & impatient for this girl to get to down to business!

Welcome 2 da city
To trigger flowering u switch to 12/12 and leave it like that for bout 8 weeks(depending on wot strain u growing) and there you go
Hope that helps and good luck!

Did you say you Started you're plant on 12/12 lighting? This is wrong... You want to start your plant on 24/0 (24/7) lighting.. This is the vegetation stage.. then when you veg her to your liking, you switch to 12/12 to trigger the Flower Stage... Can you give some more info on your setup..

Wink

For good growth in VEG the plants need some DARK HOURS, 18/6 for speedy growth. I keep my MUMS on 24/7 to stop them from growing. After I take cuttings off my mums they go back to 18/6 to encourage new growth.

There can be endless debates about this subject.. Vegging can be 18/6 or 24/0 depending on preference...some prefer 18/6 others 24/0...a plant will grow fine under both...The only true advantage I see of 18/6 are reduced electricity bills.. Plus how can a plant not benefit from 6 hours more light .. just my opinin

my opinin is a plant needs some dark time to help root growth and dstribute auxins etc etc, the plant dont just rest during the dark it does things that it needs to do. this will also reduce stress, give a higher % of fems to males when seeds are started under short days, reduce the chance of hermies etc etc i cud go on but no1 lissens.

Talking

See, this is what confused me...all the debate as to whether keep her on a 12/12 cycle or shove her in the back of the closet behind 3 ballgowns to keep the light off of her to force flowering. She's a happy looking thing, healthy & green. I've also stopped watering as often & started misting the leaves a couple times a day. If I get around to it today I'll snap some pics & post them so you can then give me a better idea based on her appearance. Man, I sound like I'm talking about my dog or one of the cats! Which reminds me, I saw some pics here of someones grow room with a cat sitting in the middle of the plants. Does your cat not chew on the plants? If that were one of my cats they'd be chowing down!!

You guys have been a LOT of help, I can't thank you enough for that & for not making me feel like a dumbass.

Wylde1: Would you prefer 20/4 or 18/6 or 23/1... how beneficial exactly is the dark time (and how do you determine this), and what length of dark time is optimal.. I'm willing to listen and learn .. it just seems they both work effeciently and untill there is any truly conclusive data, I'll stick with what I know.. I haven't seen any signs of plant stress due to running 24/0, and the plants all root fine under 24/0.. and it seems to me that plants get off to faster growth under 24/0...

edit: nopcompliance: it is the 12/12 regime that forces flowering, shoving them behind some ballroom dresses isn't reccomended
