early flowering

ok guys, i have been reading some of the posts on here, and i got to tell you i am no where as serious, experienced or into this as some of you. i threw a sead in some dirt, it started to sprout, i watered it and now im anxious to taste the grand prize. i have no idea what strain it is, cant tell if its male or female yet either. it is in an 8 inch pot inside of a box that is lined with foil. i am using a cheap light, but i will upgrade soon enough.

it is about 10-11 inches tall and has 4 sets of leaves. bottom two sets are one leaf each side and top two are three on each. this is not counting the first little leaves that i pulled off. can i switch to 12/12 now just to see what sex it is and go back to 24/0 right after it shows it sex?

Like i said, this is my first attempt to grow. Please dont flame me for asking something that is probably well known on this board.

HIGH All, welcome to The City wendall. What I'd do is transplant into a bigger pot, then switch to 12/12. Your plant will grow another 12" after switching, so I'd just leaf it on 12/12 for the next 2 months.

right on, thanks for the quick response. i will set it on 12/12 and see what happens. if it turns out to be a fem, i will try to start a clone.

you say it takes 2 months? i am going to go out today and pick up a mag. glass so I can start to watch it once it starts. i have a feeling this is going to be some pretty poor smoke if it is a fem. at least it will be mine.

U say 10/11" tall with 4 sets of leaves? Sounds like a lot of stretching there, wot kinda lights u using? i have a feeling your using normal light bulbs, if so id advise u to throw it away and get some Cfl's/Compact flourescent lights instead! Oh and throw away that aluminium foil as well and paint the inside of the box flat white, way better!
And do some reading too for yourself it'll pay off in the long term!

its only in a cardboard box, that is why i used the aluminum. i started it on a shelf in my room under a cool blue flo, and i just bought a warm one yesterday. i am thinking of getting one of the compact curved bulbs that goes into a regular socket so i can lower it into the box. i think i did have the lights too far in the beginning, but i am trying to see what happens now. like i said, this is basically a trial run.

i read that i would be able to tie it over, bend the top and tie it down and it would make it bush out more. is this ok to do? do i do it to one side and then the other, or both?

i see all of the pics of others plants on here and figured either something was wrong with mine, or it just wasnt as quality of a strain. im sure both play a factor in the way its grown so far. today i am repotting it and will change the light set up. i think i am going to start some new ones in my old pot.

i just want to see if i can get "a" bud off of this one. i am not sure if it is male or fem yet. if its fem, maybe ill try a clone.

my advice would be to just read around on the forums, i am getting ready to start my first grow and i have found so much on here that has inspired me and added to my knowledge. Thanks to the fine people on these boards i feel very confident that my grow will at least turn out decent.
