Re: new grower going hempy

Definatly keep the hempy going. You just had a little water/feeding issues. I only know one person that wasn't sold on hempy's after using them. That person is still to this day, using hempy along with soil. Add a little verm next time. It's not critical, but beneficial.

Glad you're sticking with it bud. A bit of advice though.. When growing in hempy's, it's best to start your plant in the same bucket you will finish in.. Trust me, transplanting from small hempy's into bigger hempy's is very frustrating and everything just falls apart and the roots are still going to have to find their way down to the res again, so it actually slows the whole process. Starting in the same bucket you will finish in is the best way imo, the tap root will take a little while to get to the res, but when it hits all other roots will quickly follow and your plant will be exploding with growth and you wont have to disturb the roots by doing a rough transplant. There is no easy, gentle way to transplant in hempy's. Just a few thing's I've learned..

Good luck, hope everything works out for you.

Thumbs up Re: new grower going hempy

i have three hempy ladies right now. 3 gal buckets, 75 perlite 25 vermiculite, GH nutes. started from seed. there is a decent learning curve at first but stick with it. you wont regret it.

my ladies are a touch over 2ft tall and are comming up on the 14th day of 12/12. flowers everywhere. theres over 24 tops on every plant. i only counted the tops of the main branches, not all budsites. no topping or trimming, i just let them fly and do what they do.

the reason i tell you this is because my shit durring seedling stages did the same as yours are doing and once i got through seedling and got it dialed in, there was no looking back. fast growth and branching. now the same plants that stunted and grew so slow are throwing up more flowers than i could have even hoped for!

so stick with it. that should give you some encouragment. this is my first hempy as well.

Re: new grower going hempy

i'm just sitting here mad baked and wondering to myself "I can't believe this person is growing in 100 percent perlite"

why did you chose to go this route? why not just soil? soil is earth and earth is what plants grow in.... idk you're just bugging me out man

Re: new grower going hempy

its just a form of passive hydro....its the ease of soil with benifits from hydro...sort of the best of both worlds(unless your a organic grower).

Growing in straight perlite is nothin new bro.. People have been growing in hempy buckets since the 80's.. Also as Numb said, it's just a form of hydro. There are many ways to do it. Perlite is just a medium, it's all in the nutrients bud.. It's actually much easier than soil imho.

To tell you the truth, I couldnt find any vermiculite so that why I went 100% but only after reading someones elses journal and seeing it was possible. Perlite is a neutral medium so you dont have the worries of counting NPK points. only what you add is what comes out and what the plant eats.

Thanks for checking in!

Re: new grower going hempy

UPDATE

Took time out to snap a couple while out for feeding. You can see who is leading the bunch. wow. this one just keeps getting bigger by the hour. Looks like I have both Indica and saativa plants. One seems to have nute burn? or insect problem? Anyway, water only feed today and I put out a home remedy plant insect trap--jar half full of Juice, soda and some dish soap covered by a plastic bag with tiny holes. Grandma says its great for gnats/fruit flies

Did have a hiccup today, surge protector failed on my last night so my plants were in an extended period of darkness, maybe 4-5 hours I dont care too much because im also taking suggestions on what strains to order here in a week or so. Please your input is wanted I like a variety of highs so im willing to grow anything.

Im planning on setting up another box for flowering. So, like some liked the way I put it earlier, I can single out and veg plants for as long as I want.

Hey bud , you are now entering exciting territory. Ordering beans and getting a true strain is one of the most exciting things. Be warned though, there are so many killer strains out there that you could easily get lost.. I've spent countless hours looking at and comparing all the different seeds out there.. I recommend stuff that is popular in the Cali scene right now. Stuff like Urkel, Chemdawg 91 (O.G. Kush), Those or crosses with those are a safe bet. Kushage is good, it's a cross between O.G. Kush and S.A.G.E. I'm getting some Purple Wreck for my new strain of 2010. It's Purple Urkel x Train wreck. It mostly depends on what you prefer, Indica or Sativa and what type of high you like. Check out Seedbay for some good Cali stuff and just good stuff in general. Also the Attitude has never done me wrong. I cant say enough good things about Highgrade Seeds as well.. I'm growing their Purple Cindy (Cinderella 99 x Purple Oregon Thai). Really nice guy and killer strains. As I said though I'm really partial to the Cali scene right now, I've been blown away by some of the stuff I've been sampling lately. I tried some Cinnamon Haze last week that was righteous and some Pine Tar Kush that gave a very enjoyable and hapy high and tasted like nothing I've smoked before. I recommend: T.H. Seeds, DNA Genetics, Reserva Privada, TGA Subcool, DJ Short, Mr. Nice, Wally Duck, Tom Hill, Hill Temple Collective, The Cali Connection and Highgrade Seeds.. There are a ton of others, these are just some really good breeders that have some of the best stuff around.

Also wanted to give you a tip, I have grown with cfl's several times and I have got to where I veg with only soft white cfl's, the 2700k ones. I know what you're thinking, but they give the best results imho.. It also makes your roots grow faster, so they reach the res quicker. The soft white's will give you very strong nodes and thick, healthy, deep green leaves every time. My blue widow clone I'm flowering was vegged under only soft whites, if you want to get an idea what it would look like to do this, pics are in the last pages of my journal. Just took some new shots yesterday. I've tried all kinds of different mixes of daylight and soft white and vegging with straight soft white's always gives the best results. I've also had great results using 1 6500k to every 3 2700k bulbs. Anyway I was just looking at what you are doing and thought I'd put it out there.

Edit: here are a few other suggestions. Killer stuff here from T.H. Seeds

Sage n Sour
MK Ultra
Chocolate Chunk

There is also some Super Silver Sour Diesel Haze going around that is a sure thing.. There were some seeds available on the seedbay last week, you may still be able to get your hands on some.

Re: new grower going hempy

I'm picking up 2 400 watt MH lamps friday. Craigslist anyway, bulbs--is there a certain part number that's common? There's so many types on bulbs I want to make sure I'm buying what's best for MJ. I understand HPS would be best for flowering, but is MH okay as long as the kelven is right?
