soil to use for indoor growing

i've read a good bit lately about germinating, growing, etc. What would be the best soil mixture to use for indoor growing? I have an area that i can have the plants outside as well but probably should keep them inside. Any sugestions on soil, fertizer, etc.
I've tried a couple of times but with no success, mostly due to lack of knowledge. but now that i found this site, maybe my luck will change.

HIGH All, welcome to the City smokeythedawg!!!!!

Regular garden soil or potting soil are too dense for the roots of your tiny seedlings. A good seed starting mix will be a soil less mixture of sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite and perlite. This blend will hold moisture, but also be light enough to provide air and room for the seedling's roots.

What we use and only use is Sunshine Mix#4..which has Canadian Sphagnum Peat ,Perlite (high rate), Wetting Agent, Dolomitic Lime, Gypsum. We buy the 3.8 cu ft bales which fills around 50 1gl pots.

If you're on the east coast of america, that stuff is pretty impossible to find here.....

Check out "pro-mix" that's some good shit that's readily available.

Just stay away from anything with nutrients already in it or anything too "barky".

Good luck.

I am using some soil I collected from my field. its been used to grow tobacco for several years. The Soil itself works great for growing my plants. Living on the East Coast of america I was having a hard time finding a good soil. I went through like 6 different types of soil. So I finally said fuck it and tried the tobacco soil and it worked better than anything else I have tried.
