14 days in...not good results...help :(

Ok so I germinated my seeds in moist paper towels, started them under a couple flourescents...and they burst up. In the first 5 days they were ~2 inches tall.

I switched them to my 250w hps system and now they have barely grown at all. They also started out a dark green, and have now gotten slightly paler as time goes on.

It is now been 16 days and I have 3 inch plants! (they have barely grown, and still only 2 sets of leaves).

I am very disheartened here.

I think I may have killed them. I had been watering them everyday, and now I come here and it says to only water every 3 days or so.

Do you think they will make it? I also have them about 4 feet away from the HPS...its a built in ballast and gets rather warm in my closet.

Ventilation is great, I have them on 18/6 But I pretty much haven't seen any growth in a week and a half.

thanks..

take out the 250 because your frying your plants and dont water every day because you could get mold in your soil and it will kill your plants

You can use an hps as soon as the seeds sprout, don't give him false information. But yea, you shouldn't be watering them everday. When they are bone dry up to your second knuckle, then water then until the water starts coming out of the bottom of the pot, then wait until they are bone dry again and repeat the watering process. Your light is also way to far away, a 250w should be about a foot away, 10 inches should even be fine. they aren't growing, because the light is so far away.

Glad ya posted this issue - it's the exact same thing I'm experiencing. I was watering everyday and using a 400w HPS. My light is only about 18inches away but the plant is turning more and more yellow each day.

So I took advice (got it yesterday) and am holding off on watering. Still yellow this morning and the biggest leaves are now drooping down. Temps are 81-84F and I have PLENTY of air circulation with multiple fans.

I'm really hoping if I stop watering the yellow plant will turn green - just seems weird to me. I'm used to yellow = dry. hahah...

Post a picture, it sounds like your overwatering. How old is it? Have you started any nutrient feeding yet?

Can I get on this question too? My 3 week old plants are starting to turn yellow with a little brown on their tips. I water every 2 to 3 days depending on the soil. I have a feeling that the soil I have is killing them though. At first I had them in MG and then transplanted them into some plain potting soil. But I think the soil doesn't have good airation (spelling?) or something. I am afraid to use nutes yet since they are only maybe 2 inches tall. I have them under 2 75 watt cfl daylights and a 75 watt warm white light. I think that is more than enough for 2 small plants but still I am getting nervous because of the color and I haven't seen a substantial growth. Please help me out.

Grateful if I had to guess, I would say that its your pH thats causing the problems.

If you are using tapwater make sure it sits out for day or so to get the chlorine out. Also I add a chemical that puts my water's pH to 7.0 before I water and in my soil I have dolomite lime to buffer the pH as well.
