hey every one,
i just had a quick question about transplanting my germinated seed into soil ( I'm growing outdoors).
I germinated a marijuana seed with the moist paper towel, dark and warm place technique. I let the seed germinate until the white root was about an inch long. Then when I last checked it, the seed 'shell' was appart from the root that is attached the part that was inside the seed. Then i planted it. My question is, do i cover the part that was in the seed shell with soil or do I let it out in the air???
Thx

I would leave that exposed, but I'm just guessing. Never had this happen, but I tend to plant them when the root is 1/4 inch or so, 1/2 at the most.
Hope it all works out and you get a strong girl growing.

Good growing,

ok thanks man.
I guess I let it grow a little long in the paper towels haha
but is it normal that the plant like 'ejects' from the seed? cuz I went to check it and there was the plant with the root and like the seed 'case' just beside it with nothing in it!?
and is there any way of knowing if its a girl anytime soon?
thx again

You germinated the seed too long. The plant will shed the seed shell within a day or two of sprouting. Ideally, you would have planted the seed when this happens.
Be very gentle with your taproot and cotyledons. Plant the root downward and lightly compress the soil around it, up to about 5mm below the top. Start your light cycle right away. Do not plant the 'ejected' side down!
You won't know if it's a girl for quite some time. If that's the only seed you have, prepare for the worst. Wasting 2 months vegging and sexing a single plant only to find out it's male is a real kicker. You'll find out the sex shortly after 12/12, if you veg long enough or if you clone from the plant and sex the clone.

this is probably going to sound super noobish but can you get anything out of a male weed plant? like anything smokable?

Short answer is no. Long answer is yes, but without supplemental THC, don't bother.
Males have a lot of other uses; unfortunately, they won't be applicable for your situation.

dam haha okay so I have a 50% chance of having a female? Also, do males give seeds?
I also heard that when you plant seed, its important not to plant them to close to each other or else the males can turn the females into males. Is that true?

Correct, 50% chance of female using regular seeds. So if you were growing 2 plants, your chances of having 2 females (or 2 males) would be 25%. With 4, your chances at 4 of either sex would be a scant 6.25%.
Males produce pollen. Females use the pollen to produce seed.
Plant in separate containers so that the root masses do not become intertwined. Whatever you heard about a female turning into a male (hermaphrodite) due to planting too close was likely caused by stress.
Final tip: Read the grow tutorials and FAQ's littered throughout this site. The grow journals are also excellent sources of information. What you get out will be a direct result of what you put in. When I started years ago, I would spend an hour or two of research every night until I felt I was ready.

Compost. Pollen if you want seed for next year.
