Soil to start with?

Hi! Ok, so i've tried growing before, and it never turns out too well. My seedlings would always die after a week! I was using Fox Farms Ocean soil to start with and also tried this other generic "Starting soil" brand, and I'm sure there were too many nutes in them or somethin...but anyways, can anyone suggest me their favorite starting soil? I'd really appreciate it!Thanks alot guys!

i had the same problem as you did killing plants and all until i talked with my friends about it...

all my friends use 'miracle grow potting soil' to start off with, but thats just to get the plant growing. ive had great results with that soil, and i love the brand. its got all the nutrients a plant needs to start growing. but after a few weeks when the plants more mature you should take it out of that soil.

then theys switch over to a mixture of nice dirt and sand. more dirt than sand though, the sands just to filter water better. i like to get 'miracle gro garden soil' bc its not too enriched with stuff so i can just use it for a few months at a time, but you should change or add soil after a few months, it does run out of nutrients.

i hoped this helped, let me kno...

start your seeds in rockwool cubes or oasis cubes. with cubes, you can transfer them to any medium you like.

supersoil

I have used supersoil with great success. I fertilized once at introduction to flowering stage. I have had failures too becuase I moved to a place where the ph of the tap water is very high. Another reason for your failure could be too much heat or too little fresh air exchange. The best recommendation I could make is to go to hydro. there are many reasons; no root bounding, complete control of nutes and ph, no difficult watering, no hauling soil in and out comprimizing security, faster growth, higher yeild, no transplanting, less labor and higher yeild etc.

Here's what I do at this point...

I picked up some real cheap...but adequate soil. It is nice and black with some bark to help with aeration and water retention. I then mix in some peat moss, sand(not from beach) and compost. Compost, if made correctly, is the best thing for plants. It contains all the needed nutrients and micro nutrients the plant will ever need, for it's whole life! After the veg state I will top the soil with a new layer of compost. I stay away from bone and blood meal as most of it comes from slaughter houses, and with the reality of mad cow ...I'm all set. I watch the health of the plant closely, if I see it is lacking...I will add a bit of Monster Bloom to the water every other week.
