Re: Heat Detectors

Im not sure if FLIR is somthing than can use to get a warrent in most states, and an hps lamp does not mean you grow weed, dont sell and dont tell ppl, and dont drive around with you weed.

Some places in the world have different laws, look at a chic with FLIR though and tell me it isn not spying.

I swear if I found out the popo was using forward looking IR on me I would make a heating element sighn in the windows telling them where to stick thier FLIR, This Tech was developed for warfare as a sighting system and if used on me I will consider it an act of war. :P

I dont think small timers need to worry much though.

Getting a bit off topic, but I totally agree with that. If I need to move weed I ALWAYS take the bus - no cop ever pulled the bus over.

The number #1 rule for not getting caught is: DO NOT TELL ANYONE!!!!

I doubt ANY grow-house gets busted without the help of an informant.

Re: Heat Detectors

One really good tip to consider is also using LEDS for an indoor grow... they emit NO HEAT... I mean your plants can literly grow RIGHT INTO them... and also a 14watt panel is somewhat equivalent to 200watts of HPS... ideally 1000watts of LEDS can perfectly light up any indoor grow. Ofcourse you'd have to position the panels accordingly and somewhat close to your plants... but nonetheless.... the greatest way to avoid heat signature is definately with LEDS.

ahh again the only LED argument that has any merit rears its head. Come back in 5-10 years when they might be worth the investment. I am just not for cutting my yields for heat, or electricity. I have yet to see a "equivalent" equal any HID.

sorry for the hijak Canth.

Re: Heat Detectors

Well you'd think you would cut your yeilds, but if properly setup an LED grow can yeild just as much, it's just not practical to have one 14watt panel and expect it to cover anymore than 2 square feet(you DO need to setup quiet a few panels/bulbs if you expect to cover a large area).... I know LEDS are not as simple as "stick 2-3 bulbs in your room and your good"... you WILL need to set them up all over the place, inbetween plants, at the bottom, at the top, but TRUST me please.... they WILL work and they WILL let your plants grow as much as the pots they are in allow them. There is plenty of ways to make it work.

Although you present a good point, it is rather expensive to achieve such results... but the commercial grower who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars per year can easily make the money spent on lighting back within a harvest.

I am just throwing it out there that the LEDS are an EXCELLENT way to put up as many lights as the heart desires without running into heat issues OR suspicion with the electricity bill.

If you want to see an "equivalent LED to HID ratio of power consumption", here it is, quoted from the website that they are being sold on.

"GrowPanel ProŽ - The GrowPanel ProŽ series of LED grow lights are the most powerful LED grow lights available today. Rivaling the output of 1000 Watt Metal Halide & HPS grow lights, the GrowPanel ProŽ consumes 80% less power than HPS and MH lights and provides your plants with the perfect blend of light for all stages of plant growth. Plants grown under the GrowPanel ProŽ produce large, lush leaves and bountiful fruits and flowers. The GrowPanel Pro is suitable for large indoor gardens and greenhouses and provides coverage up to 50 square feet as a primary plant light."

Sorry
If I come off as some snobb who thinks LEDS LEDS LEDS are the best ahhaha... I completely agree they are just NOT economical with current prices... they are damn expensive, but I will soon be starting up a 2 square foot stealth grow and it will be fully LED operated. I will most definately invite you to check my thread because if done with proper organization and a little bit of an investement the LED setup will be as good as any conventional method.

edit: Sorry I would also like to add that if you setup one HID lamp in the center of the grow and surrounded that by LED panels, that would also be a VERY efficient way to still get a great yield with little power consumption... (using a max of like 1500 watts compared to about 3000... both retaining probably the exact same results)

What would be nice is someone with plenty of money to blow away and do a huge test LOL!!

But I do give it to ya.... HID > LED for the bang for your buck.

I honestly never thought of doing it that way. Great idea
