Germination question

I've searched and haven't found an answer. How long should germination take? I've had almost 20-30 random seeds in a container for at least 48 hours and I got nothing.

One thing I do to help speed them up is use a little heat....

Example: I wet a paper towel, fold it up, add in a couple seeds and throw it in a tupperware container. Close the lid and then put it either on top of on of my old tv's (little heat), surround sound mixer or next to my ballast...

The little bit of added heat usually kicks em into high gear and I get a taproot within 24-48 hours... If not, then I give em a week and toss them if they dont germ.

I never mess with paper towels, the first fine roots tend to grow into the towel and get ripped off when the seed is moved. Mine get soaked in water for 24 hours, then sown into compost and kept warm and moist.
I donīt know how the hell MJ germinated itself for 50 million years before paper towels were invented.

Paper towel method on a heat mat I get 24 hour germination times every time. And cantharis its true seeds did germinate before paper towels but it doesn't mean they germinated quicker or the towel method isn't better but its down to preference, don't be disheartened they will pop soon enough man.

Peace

Hahah Cantharis... Not to mock you at all... just giggling (probably cause I'm way too high).

MJ survived in the past based on random execution of seed to soil germination.... MJ has EVOLVED my friend.

Science has since IMPROVED THIS METHOD... kinda like microwaves improve our way of cooking.

If your seeds, in paper towels, cause you issues because you are 'ripping' the roots out - uhhh, try checking on them more often than every 2-3 days.

I germ in paper towel until I see a single tap root... it's not 'tied into the papertowel' as I'm checking on it daily and it didn't have time.

Best fuckin way IMHO... helps, if nothing else, to ensure the seed I put in the soil/rockwool/jiffy pellet is faced the right way - keeping the tap root down and facing the medium.

LOL, if you think microwaves improve our way of cooking I guess you donīt possess any culinary skills.

I soak my seeds in water for 24 hours - a lot have split open and the
first root appeared anyway.
Then into my growing medium, keep them moist and warm. Any still floating after 24 hours are probably sterile husks, I will plant them in the one pot but usually nothing happens there.
I guess we just choose the method that works best for us.

hahah Canth...ass... I'm actually a chef as my profession... schooled at Gianni Brera in Italy ya fuck.... hahahah.

Bottom line - microwaves improve the NORM with cooking... hence they can re-heat something without having to light up a pan...

You said it EXACTLY - microwaves are GREAT for defrosting and reheating. That is about all.

Hahah.... right on bro... symantecs removed, microwaves are HORRIBLE for roasting or when a crust or carmalization is desired. Guess I always thought of cooking to be 'heating up' food...

Oh well... enough of the thread hijack... ya got my props though for a snappy come back... hehee

Hey guys,

thans for the replies. I've done all of the above, and they're not germinating at all, or even cracking open, and even after I cracked some of them open myself, I'm still getting nothing.

Looks like the seeds are bad. I need to get some new ones now. Any suggestions on what seeds and where?
