Water Homemade Hydro System help

i have made a hydro system out of random parts the items i found at my house. it seems to be able to work correctly. let me know what you think.

i will be using a 200w hps as my light source.

the aquarium pump had two out puts on it so i decided to run another airstone into what will be the pot. i am using peat mss and perlite as the grw medium. im aiming for organic hydro.

also should i leave the water pump on constantly 24/7 r put it on a timer like the light?
(the rocks are in there for us to see the water flow while setting the speed of the pump)

pics

please give me your opinins on this setup. any advice will be appreciated. thanks for looking!

If you're gonna do hydro, then don't use perlite and peat moss, get some hydroton and rockwool.

The system you built should work, but consider adding some kind a light shield between the lights and where the roots will be. This will keep the roots from turning green and trying to produce chlorophyll, and keep algea out of your reservoir.

I'd consider adding some sort of aerator to the end of the hose. Like in many bathroom sinks where the water is put through a screen to mix it with air.

Good luck.

Looks good... But just like Mycroft said cover your res so light doesnt get in and cause havoc in your res. Also yes put your pump on a timer, like 5 min on and 4 hours off. What you want is it to wet your medium really good, and then give it time to dry a little but not totally. Another thing is you might want to turn down the flow of your pump, looks like its pumping alot of water.

This reminds me of a system built by a guy named "gregsick" or something like that. I can't seem to find it now, but it was a cool small closet system good for one plant.
