good solution for semi-ocassional user?

Hi! Glad to be here...I'm excited to be part of the forum.

Obviously, I’m thinking of growing my own.

My situation is a bit different because getting high yields aren’t that important for me. I smoke infrequently – maybe 4 grams a month or so. Actually, I usually just make a 2 gram firecracker every other weekend and that’s enough to get me wrecked for half the day.

So, I don’t need anything fancy or elaborate. Just enough for a gram per week.

I’ve looked into this on the internet, but most people seem to be far more into it than I am. They’ve got grow boxes with elaborate nutrient systems, spliced electrical wiring, tubes running every which way with fans and filters for 10+ plants. It’s way more than I need or am interested in.

What I’d really like to do is find a solution or guide that will allow me to germinate the seeds, plant them and then, other than some daily maintenance, have everything else take care of itself (I know I'll have to harvest, etc). It’s not because I’m lazy or lack respect for the plant, it’s simply because I'm too busy elsewhere to really learn the ins and outs of the whole process. That's part of the reason I only consume every other week or so. But I really do enjoy it, and am willing to learn enough to meet my goals

In case it matters, I’m not on a tight budget and stealth isn’t an issue (though odor control would be).

What is my best solution here? Are there any decent pre-made boxes that would be good for me?

Thanks so much!

Use an existing wardrobe for the area, cover the insides with mylar, get a 400-600w HPS, carbon filter w/ fan, oscilating fan, and a couple of autopots. 2 plants "should" yield you around 10oz+.. which will last you a lifetime by the sounds of it. Theres no point wasting electricity and time & effort for half a plant.

For germinating buy a propagator, should be around $4 in the US.

ROFL, thats how 90% of us started here,,, you wait a year and you'll be sitting here with the rest of us talking about TDS, Ph and the curvature of light, lol

OR

You'll be bitching about the cost weed and how hard it is to grow (the other 10%)

Cool. Thanks for the good info, Scarby.

I looked into the autopots and I see why you mentioned them - very low maintence. I've been reading up on what media to use in the pots, airstones, etc.

One thing is, I noticed there's two different systems available:

http://www.futuregarden.com/cgi-bin/shop/50-3004.html

and

http://www.futuregarden.com/cgi-bin/shop/50-3000.html

the primary difference is that one comes with the reservoir and a bunch of nutrients. I assume I just the less expensive one, right?

Also, with the HPS light you mentioned, would that need to be cycled...12/12, etc? And it should remain about 18" above the top of the plant, right?

if you really want to grow, i would buy some autoflowering feminized lowryder plants. they come in all different strains. www.dutchbreed.com. anyways i would also get a couple of CFL lights and rig up a little room somewhere in your house. Those plants have low yields but it is definitely worth it for a smoker like yourself.

You'll need a reservoir obviously, but you can make one yourself easy enough, but they're pretty cheap, so just buy one - as you get a little filter with it, plus the attachments for the silicone tubing.

Yes the light would have to be cycled, 18/6 for veg, then 12/12 for flower. I've only recently seen about the auto flowering strains and they sound pretty good, as you won't have to mess around with timers etc. I'd def go with the autopot routine and an auto flowering if you don't want too much hassle. Good luck.

For a grow box, if moneys not an issue, maybe go with a Hydro Hut (Or grow tent in the UK) as the insides actually covered with a light-reflecting material, not mylar, but still works ok. They're lightproof too.

Not sure about the US, but you can buy a package, which will include most, if not all of the equipment you'll need, which will work out cheaper.
