having problems with first grow

to start.. my plant is outside. gets sunlight from 7am-about 6:30pm. its about 4 weeks old. i water it at night about every 3 days when the soil is dry a few inches deep. once a week i feed it miracle grow african violet food. my friends told me its good for pot plants. i have to admit i do add more then it says on the bottle. it seems like its not growing as fast as it should. but maybe im just being impatiant seeing all the sweet plants u guys have n here i knowfirst round leaves are supposed to turn yellow but my 3rd set is starting to turn yellow. and the the newest leaf didnt grow right at all. as you can see in the picture. what could cause the leaf to grow like that? and is it bad for those to turn yellow? what could cause that? i also have some small hole probably from catipillers. what could i buy to keep the bugs away without harming the plant? please give me some info on how to help my baby. sorry the pics are shitty i only have a camera phone

Your plants are looking just fine. The yellowing is probably from one of three reasons:

1) Your using too much food (nutrient burn)

2) Your plants are not able to absorb the nutrients due to a pH imbalance (it needs to be somewhere between 6.3 and 6.8)

3) It's too early to use food

We didn't start feeding them until flowering started

Canadian mix, right on brotha...

Are there timed released nutrients in that mix, I couldn't tell by looking at it...

Like the above guy said, its most likely nute burn but it could be a number of things although I doubt its a PH problem. In fact as a new grower, don't even get into PH...

Stop using Miracle Grow!! Yikes! Tell us what is in your potting mix and we'll take it from there.

Peace
