Question Trying to plan temp control during dark period of flowering (first grow).

I don't have a timer yet, but flowering is coming up. Are there timers that can switch a space heater on when the light goes off? Would a heat pad under the pots, or under whatever happens to be elevating the pots, work to keep the plants warm enough? I'd like to save on wattage if possible... it gets around 30-40 degrees F at night where I am, and my house has poor insulation.

I'm growing in an approx. 3'x3' closet area. Right now under 250w mh, going to flower under 250w hps.

Anyone who gives advice, please keep in mind I'm kinda broke... and thanks in advance.

I'm curious to this as well. I'm moving my grow box into the garage and it gets damn cold here. I dont want to have to heat the whole garage to keep the cabinet up to temp. One thing I thought of is to use green incandescents to keep the cabinet warm. I've heard that the plants can't uptake this light so I thought maybe that would work.

You guys might want to look into getting something like this, you can plug a space heater or cooling fan into it. Just set the temperature you want and tell it whether you want it to cool or heat. I found this one at one of those big corperate hardware stores.

Hydro Farmer also makes one for $15 bucks. The catch is, its not climate controlled. You can set it for 15 mins every 15 min in 15 min spaces. "that make sense?"

You can have it turn on every 15 mins. For 15 mins.

So you can set the timer every 30 mins for 15 mins.

if your not on a budget, get that above my post. If you are, 15 bucks made simple.

That may also work, if I had a small space heater to go on 15 mins every 30 mins the temps may not drop too low hopefully... the only problem is if it gets too hot for the plants during lights on period due to the additional heat from the heater. Im away from my plants 4 days of the week..

thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.

if you got a temp gauge like the other poster said then it would only turn the socket on during cold temps. i didnt think they made timers like that but its pretty damn nifty.

I would get a space heater and timer fast and see the temps when its all on. If you need to make changes you can and maybe you can adjust it properly to where its good.

You got ventalation right, heat should get sucked right out.

a small heater will be able to warm a small cabinet definately, those things have mad power and can heat a sealed bdedroom very nicely. or tent. prolly wont have to go for the biggest baddest thing out there.

I got a little Titan ceramic heater with a thermostat.Since my "Tomatos" are in a bilco door in the NE it gets mad cold in there. The little Titan puts off no light as long as you cover the little led on it and the thermostat keeps my bilco at 75f constantly during snowy days.Little Titans are like 20 bucks at wally world.

Hey everyone. New to this forum.

Hey Relobe, I registered on this forum just to get the info on that thermostat you posted here. is 30bones right? I GOTTA have that. You said major hardware store. Please give me more info on that? Need manufacturer and part number if you have it.

So I registered just for that and looked around...If it's ok, I'd like to hang out. I am totally new to indoor growing and expect that I will do 'just ok' on this grow. I am not going crazy yet. I will let the blueberry vines just do their thing and try only a few different things and note them in a journal. In my housplant and outdoor gardening experience...to be a good gardener, you have to be like a good papa or mama. Patient enough to let them do their own things but strict enough to make them realize their potential.

...I just wanted to get the good info that is on here. SCROG looks WAY cool. But I am starting from seeds on this grow and I would hate to untangle the sexes later. LOVED the thread posted by GreenMonster. I think that it would work well for me later, though.

More yeild and less plants is a good thing if you have a legal limit and I hope to get that sometime in the future. I could get it legitimately but I am nervous to register in fear that they come and take my set-up or me away when they decide to change it back!

Ok, I rambled enough. Nice to meet you all!
