cheap heat retention / insulation in a closet

get a piece of polyurathane or polystyrene foam board/rolls. Cut to fit top of closet against ceiling. Wrap foam in 2-3 sheets of newspaper. trim, tape and seal package as tight as possible. Trim and Wrap package w/ spaceblanket. Wrap package again w/ newspaper, again with spaceblanket. Ta-Da! Place on ceiling or walls of closet. Cover w/ reflective mylar if u have any. TA-DA! You just made R-30 or better insulation.

Do not allow it to come into direct contact with any heat source like a lamp or heater. Avoid placing holes in package. Avoid running electrical wiring through package if possible. Significant heat can and will melt materials used in construction of package.

i was gonna suggest insulation as well except it is a fire hazard like stated. a small space heater IMO is less a fire hazard than a whole lotta insulation in an enclosure with good lights, plus th einsulation might keep it a little too warm during the hours the lights are on.

Looked back and realized that I should have asked Hempfarmer where they picked up the thermostat. I found something that would work in the meantime.

THanks though. Nice site.

A small space heater hooked to a regular lamp timer will work well. You just have to make sure that the heater is not a digital read-out because when the timer cuts the power to it the settings on the heater are wiped out and it won't come back on by itself. Make sure you get a cheapie heater that has manual buttons and knobs for the power switch and heat settings so that you can leave it in those positions to run automatically when the timer sends power to it.
