point and shoot or dslr for pics here

want the best camera but dont have a million dollars to spend
should i get the canon power shot S5 IS
or canon rebel xti and which lens is the best for it

Mate I wouldn't grab a DSLR just for GC, they run in the thousands (here). Have a look at this site:

I would recommend getting a point and click. They can come with some nice macro potential. Just make sure you get the rechargeable batteries!!

bought the nikon d40 dslr with rechargable battery and a lens filter for 600 dollars us

i picked up a nikon p4 (i think) for under 100 bucks on ebay, its an insane deal... 8.1 mega pixels,incredible battery life, and very respectable picture quality, plus it has a lot of really nice presets, including a macro with 3 modes. It takes awesome pics, I got mine like a year ago, I bet they are even cheaper now.

EDIT: I just checked ebay for them again now, i don't know how in the hell i got mine for under 100 shipped but they are 150-250 buy in now on there right now. I think i won an auction and it was supposedly used from the Auctiondrop seller but when i got it, it was brand new as far as i could tell.

anyway, still a good camera, still recomended, also canon makes great cameras too.. cant go wrong with either brand i think.
